00:06:00karamazovapyoooh...just realized...each point is actually a pair
00:06:00karamazovapyso it's probably only around 50,000 points

00:51:00raptorok, i can test a bit
00:52:00karamazovapyI'm feeling serious fatigue from this level.
00:54:00karamazovapymy back and neck are both sore
00:55:00raptorWatusimoto_: looks like no crashes in the editor, and no goofiness that i can see with teams
00:55:00raptorseems stable
00:55:00Watusimoto_excellent
00:56:00Watusimoto_I almost like the new design
00:56:00raptoroh good
00:56:00karamazovapywhat's the difference?
00:56:00raptorit doesn't crash in linux anymore..
00:56:00karamazovapythat's good
00:57:00karamazovapyI thought there might be some different aesthetic difference, though
00:57:00karamazovapyis the reactor gametype going to be fully supported?
00:57:00raptori haven't looked at those latest commits to see if Watusimoto_ did anything visual..
00:57:00raptorbut it was just code architecture changed for the crash problem
00:58:00karamazovapyright
00:58:00Watusimoto_nothing visual
00:58:00Watusimoto_if we have time, and someone codes it, we'll do the reactor
00:58:00Watusimoto_it's still on the list, but in danger of being pushed to 016a
00:58:00karamazovapyI was just curious
00:58:00Watusimoto_which would require 016a to become 017
00:59:00Watusimoto_but no matter. we'll see how things go
00:59:00Watusimoto_off to bed
00:59:00Watusimoto_good night
00:59:00raptorwe need a name for the game type
00:59:00raptorgood night
00:59:00karamazovapynight wat
00:59:00BFLogBot - Commit 02ecde8f6a93 | Author: watusim...@bitfighter.org | Log: Added stub code for creating test values for testing scoreboard with lots of players
00:59:00Watusimoto_originally was going to be "Reactor"
00:59:00Watusimoto_may change to "Flux Capacitor"
00:59:00raptorOk, I can start a 'ReactorGameType' I think
00:59:00raptoror not
00:59:00Watusimoto_sure
00:59:00karamazovapyAssaultGameType
00:59:00karamazovapyif we want to get away from doubling letters
00:59:00Watusimoto_FluxCapGameType
00:59:00Watusimoto_?
01:00:00raptorI like Assault
01:00:00karamazovapyRetrieve/Rabbit
01:00:00Watusimoto_Assaut is fine
01:00:00raptorFluxCap sounds too 80s
01:00:00Watusimoto_rates
01:00:00Watusimoto_rats
01:01:00raptor:)
01:01:00Watusimoto_assault sounds rather bland
01:01:00Watusimoto_but whatever
01:01:00karamazovapyyeah, it's not super original
01:01:00Watusimoto_the name can be changed
01:01:00Watusimoto_so k, what do you need before I go to sleep?
01:01:00karamazovapytrying to think of other names for taking a fortification
01:01:00Watusimoto_most of our players don't remmber the 80s.
01:01:00karamazovapywell my mighty mighty level won't be done
01:01:00karamazovapyin the next few, anyway
01:02:00karamazovapyraptor might get a preview
01:02:00Watusimoto_ok, well, good night then
01:02:00karamazovapynight
01:02:00raptoroooo a preview
01:02:00raptornight
01:07:00karamazovapyI'm working in chunks and I still only do about 3,000 points at a time
01:07:00Watusimoto_ Quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
01:08:00karamazovapyI think I'm finally getting there, though.

01:09:00raptordinner time!

01:40:00raptorwhat
01:40:00raptorour forums are so small, why chose such a complicated pseudonym?
01:47:00karamazovapycause it looks neat?
01:47:00raptoryeah but then you have to type it...
01:57:00karamazovapyhe doesn't!

03:01:00karamazovapywell well well
03:01:00raptorof water
03:01:00karamazovapywe may be near an initial test
03:03:00karamazovapyonly about 780 KB
03:03:00raptori'll offer my services as guinea pig
03:04:00karamazovapyI have a couple things I need to sort first
03:04:00raptorgood, i need to complete an assignment...
03:34:00karamazovapyI think this level has driven me to the brink of madness
03:43:00karamazovapyOKAY
03:44:00raptorfinally finished my assignment
03:45:00karamazovapyI'm gonna pee, then throw a server up and see if this thing will even load on my VPS
03:45:00raptorhaha
03:46:00karamazovapyI wound up moving the coordinates and it ballooned to nearly 900KB
03:48:00karamazovapysweet jesus, here it comes
03:48:00raptori see TOP SECRET
03:49:00karamazovapypassword is monkeyshines
03:49:00raptor25%
03:49:00raptor50%
03:49:00raptor75%
03:50:00raptoryeah so at 100% and bitfighter is using over 100MB RAM
03:50:00karamazovapylol
03:50:00karamazovapyit connected fine for me
03:50:00raptorok, loaded and went back to 70MB RAM
03:53:00karamazovapyI'll update the level if/when I can fixify
03:53:00raptorwow karamazovapy, that level added a stable 40MB RAM to run
03:53:00karamazovapylol
03:53:00raptormore than double the footprint of the entire game!
03:54:00karamazovapyI still blame the asteroids
03:54:00karamazovapybut it was probably the barriers
03:54:00sam686using too much barriers?
03:54:00raptorit was a healthy dosage of barrier
03:58:00karamazovapyokay. take two.
03:59:00karamazovapylooks like I need take three
04:00:00sam686i can't join TOP SECRET even with the correct password, when it loads it freezes my client (probably clipper is slow) for about 90 seconds long enough to disconnect me when it unfreezes
04:01:00karamazovapyit took me two tries the first time
04:02:00sam686the freezing is probably due to trying to generate all the barrier edges lines, which uses clipper
04:02:00raptorhaha
04:03:00raptoroh yeah, i wonder what /showzones is like...
04:03:00raptormaybe add the BotNavMeshZone Line?
04:03:00karamazovapyI added a navmeshzone so it didn't even try
04:03:00raptorgood move
04:04:00karamazovapyokay...gonna need a take four...getting there.
04:06:00karamazovapyI could probably do with half the points, but I'd have to more or less do the whole thing over
04:06:00karamazovapythink it's about right now
04:07:00raptorready test?
04:07:00karamazovapysho
04:08:00karamazovapyyou have a 999 ping
04:08:00raptorloaded!
04:08:00karamazovapyI'm about 80
04:10:00sam686maybe i should edit my client to not calculate barrier edges, mine freezes again..
04:11:00karamazovapyyeah...you're there...it looks like you just haven't caught it yet
04:11:00raptormy CPU stays spiked after loading for about 20 seconds
04:11:00raptorthat's worth about 100 seconds on your CPU, right? :)
04:12:00sam686mine freezes at 50% cpu usage (1 / 2 cpus)
04:13:00sam686if i wait it will unfreeze, but i lagged out due to frozen too long
04:14:00sam686ok, gametype.cpp, find and remove "Barrier::prepareRenderingGeometry(clientGame);" and it should not freeze no more (i think)
04:15:00karamazovapymaybe it has to do with your smoothing stuff
04:15:00sam686it freezes inside "Barrier::prepareRenderingGeometry(clientGame)"
04:15:00raptorit's definitely clipper
04:15:00karamazovapyneither me or raptor freezes out completely, though
04:15:00karamazovapyand I actually load pretty quick
04:16:00sam686my CPU is too slow, i guess..
04:16:00raptori wonder if that would be a useful option - turn off clipping
04:16:00karamazovapyhm
04:16:00raptorto add to the INI
04:16:00sam686did the server die or what?
04:16:00karamazovapyI just shut it down
04:17:00sam686it lagged out
04:17:00karamazovapymaybe I'll see if I can replicate that level without so many points
04:20:00sam686at least i did use /getmaphack as a way to get just all barriers walls, but i sure see BarrierMaker show up 59937 times for me..
04:20:00raptor /getmaphack??
04:20:00raptorwhen has that been implemented?
04:20:00sam686yes on my 015a clone
04:20:00raptorahhh
04:21:00sam686but 016 have changes a lot making my hack not work anymore on 016
04:22:00sam686but, my getmaphack have limits, it can't see spawn points of anything, it can't see all turrets or forcefields or asteroids, or health or flags
04:24:00karamazovapywhat does /getmaphack do?
04:25:00sam686it can save all barriers, basically, but in a way that splits all barriers as only 2 points (as the server only send to client that way)
04:26:00karamazovapyif you have that, then what's the point of letting me disable map downloads?
04:27:00sam686not sure, but getmaphack cannot save spawnpoints at all, it can't save anything the client cannot see.
04:27:00karamazovapyyeah, but the spawnpoints aren't exactly the tough part
04:27:00raptorit's your standard 'analog hole' way of getting the level
04:27:00karamazovapyit's a little more than an "analogue hole"
04:28:00raptoryes - that's how its spelled...
04:28:00raptormy guess that it just does two points per line?
04:28:00karamazovapyanalog is right too
04:29:00sam686well, clients does need to know where to render the walls and other stuff...
04:29:00sam686i used that data to save it..
04:29:00raptori had no idea you built a wall-scraper
04:30:00karamazovapyas long as it's out there, there's no way to keep people from downloading your levels with or without your consent, though
04:30:00karamazovapywhich makes me question why I should even bother making and hosting my own levels
04:33:00raptoryeah, it'd probably be good that quietly disappeared
04:34:00raptoralthough - this brings up the issue of client-side level caching again
04:34:00raptorbecause if we did that: we'd have HUGE gains in network performance
04:34:00raptorbut then we'd need to figure out how to lock down levels on the client side again - which means DRM
04:35:00sam686still won't fix barrier edge clipper freeze...
04:35:00sam686maybe how should the freeze be fix?
04:35:00karamazovapythe level I was hosting was over 900 KB of barriers. I don't think it's a real problem.
04:36:00sam686there is almost no way to lock down levels when it is sent to client and is open source..
04:36:00raptoryep
04:36:00karamazovapythat doesn't mean an exploit should be readily accessible
04:37:00sam686it is not on a released version of 015a, so most people won't have it..
04:37:00karamazovapywhy do you even need it if people have agreed to share levels?
04:38:00sam686its on what i might call it "015a_modified_by_sam" or similar
04:38:00raptoryou'll probably have to get rid of the clone after 016 anyways, correct?
04:39:00sam686probably yes...
04:39:00sam686or, maybe i could keep my clone up for some looking back at code in the future..
05:00:00raptorfinally!
05:00:00raptorI can finally output SVG lines to level code :)
05:02:00karamazovapyas interesting as that is, I think you're taking the long way around
05:03:00raptorwell, it was a learning exercise: we have this idea to transform levels to svg and back for previews online
05:03:00raptorand have an automatic preview in the map gallery
05:03:00karamazovapyah
05:04:00raptorbut i needed to learn the SVG format a bit and what libraries there are to parse it
05:04:00karamazovapythat would be neat
05:04:00raptoralthough i'm still thinking about your font-to-level problem in the back of my mind....
05:08:00raptorsam686: whats the max x,y of a level?
05:08:00raptor32767?
05:09:00sam686i don't know if there is a max x, y, maybe it is limited by bot zone generator
05:09:00raptoryes, that one
05:12:00karamazovapydoes anyone know of a webcam-type camera you can buy that will upload pictures via 3G instead of an ethernet or wireless connection?
05:13:00raptorit would probably be bluetooth connected
05:13:00raptorbut no...
05:13:00karamazovapyI actually found some that work, but you need to buy a USIM card
05:13:00raptorinteresting
05:14:00raptoryou mean directly to the internet, without an intermediary device?
05:14:00karamazovapyyep
05:14:00karamazovapymy 87 year old grandmother doesn't want or need anything for christmas, but it would be cool if she could check on the family farm across the country when ever she had a mind to
05:14:00sam686easy, buy a usb-to-3G internet adapter or ethernet-to-3G or similar, if it exist
05:15:00sam686many webcam may have ethernet port
05:16:00sam686but i don't know much, try searching harder...
05:16:00karamazovapyI don't really want to buy a wireless data plan for a silly webcam that will hardly ever get used
05:16:00karamazovapyI was hoping that there would be some camera out there with a wireless deal like the Amazon Kindle
05:16:00karamazovapybuy the hardware, get limited service for free
05:17:00sam686i don't think they will gave away free internet, except for certain devices..
05:17:00karamazovapyyeah, I know it's a long shot...but I figured uploading a couple low-resolution still pictures a day wouldn't be a big expense for a company selling an expensive camera
05:18:00sam686maybe a webcam to dialup telephone line?
05:18:00sam686unless they have internet connection
05:18:00karamazovapynah, this is a hundred acre farm with a trailer
05:19:00sam686i need to get to sleep, later..

20:53:00karamazovapysometimes I hate our community.
20:54:00raptorha!
20:55:00raptori think my life has been less stressful that since I sort of decided not to peruse the forums as often
20:55:00karamazovapyI feel like it's my official unofficial job
20:56:00karamazovapyI said I'd be willing to manage the forums if watusimoto added them to bitfighter.org
20:56:00karamazovapywe used to be on invisionfree/zetaboards
20:57:00raptorah - well i try to help out when I can... but i usually just do administrative stuff instead of diplomacy
20:58:00karamazovapyeven my silly little bot mod - the stupid 12 year olds can't just post "oh. neat." they have to complain about how it didn't take that much work!
20:58:00raptorhaha
20:58:00raptorthey need to all go watch bambi again and play close attention to thumper
20:59:00CrazyLinuxNerdif you listen to 12/13 year olds.. nothing takes much work..
20:59:00karamazovapywell it didn't take much work. but I made a point of saying that myself.
21:01:00CrazyLinuxNerdDid they say "thanks" or "thank you" for whatever it was? (assuming it was something given to them?)
21:01:00karamazovapynah
21:01:00karamazovapyhttp://bitfighter.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1057
21:02:00karamazovapynot that I need the ego stroke, but to go out of your way to post something critical is just annoying
21:02:00CrazyLinuxNerdlove the response you gave them about the insight xD
21:04:00CrazyLinuxNerdyou know it reminds me of PS3 "hacking" scene at the moment, on one end of the stick, you have old skool sceners from PSP/PS2/PS1 hacking days, on the other you have modern sceners from Xbox 360/Wii and up (usually 13/14) they seem to "demand stuff" yet, when people release, they flame them and say it's not good enough.. tbh their attitude ruined the scene, which is why the old skoolers topped releasing and said "do it your self"
21:05:00CrazyLinuxNerdi really don't get them tbh, i know i was their age once my self.. but i was never like that.
21:05:00raptori think that has been fairly common of society at large for about 10 years or so
21:06:00CrazyLinuxNerdmakes me laugh though, they demand, and say it's not good enough etc, just ask them "well what have you given us" in the PS3 scene it usually ends up with them saying "that's not the point here" as they didn't release squat.
21:06:00karamazovapyI don't understand griping when the release person makes it clear what they're giving out
21:07:00karamazovapylike in the torrent scene, I don't understand people who complain about the image quality of a CAM
21:07:00karamazovapyseriously...someone sat in a movie theater with a camera. what were you expecting?
21:09:00CrazyLinuxNerdyeah, think of Total_Noob's HEN (Homebrew enabler) he made for PSP, it would only play homebrew, no pirated games etc, it had no iso loader built in (you could add one though..) all the youngsters complained at him saying "oh it's useless" he quit the scene, and now won't release a thing, infact, it was one of the better HEN's at the time, he helped move the whole scene forward, what did he get? flamed by newbs
21:10:00CrazyLinuxNerdi really dislike seeing people flame and complain when they them selves probably can't do better
21:10:00karamazovapyyeah. constructive feedback doesn't bother me, or even feature requests that would be cool.
21:10:00karamazovapythey can be a little annoying if the requesters have no idea what they're talking about, but it doesn't frustrate me as much.
21:12:00karamazovapyI dunno though, it's easy for me to get down on our entitled bitfighter tweens
21:12:00CrazyLinuxNerdwell yeah, criticism can be good, but just saying "oh it's simple" or "oh it's useless" really isn't helpful.
21:14:00raptorwow, little apple has almost 3 times the posts I do...
21:14:00karamazovapyI know it was a simple mod, but this one is the first bot anyone has posted whose gameplay you can actually control through chat. that seemed cool to me!
21:14:00CrazyLinuxNerdimo it is cool, afterall, you have to start somewhere right? that's what these kids seem to forget..
21:14:00karamazovapyBotFighter is going to out post you within a month
21:15:00raptorok, time to do an in-place distribution upgrade....
21:15:00raptori bet
21:15:00raptordoes anyone know him from the zap days?
21:15:00karamazovapyLA?
21:15:00CrazyLinuxNerdraptor: in-place distro upgrade? don't tell me you mean as in linux distribution, if so....... good luck.. you might need it ;)
21:16:00karamazovapyor BotFighter?
21:16:00raptorbotfighter
21:16:00raptorCrazyLinuxNerd: openSUSE has had almost no issues for the past 3 releases with distribution upgrades
21:16:00karamazovapyI swear none of these people who claim they used to play zap were actually around
21:16:00raptorhaha
21:17:00karamazovapythey might've downloaded an old client at some point, possibly just before they found bitfighter, but no one actually remembers them and they had zero involvement in the community
21:17:00CrazyLinuxNerdraptor: That's cool, Try updating via yum on fedora while the system is running... it might not boot, or work or even complete the upgrade, usually it's recommended to exit the OS and boot from some form of media before updating packages :-)
21:17:00karamazovapyespecially the young ones
21:19:00karamazovapymy zap! server was the last one to go down (since it was the only stable dedicated server for the final year or more of zap!'s life) and I stopped hosting it nearly three years ago
21:19:00karamazovapythese kids did not stumble across zap! when they were eight years old.
21:19:00raptorhaha
21:20:00karamazovapyOpti just started a thread for some kind of "Old Zapsters Club"
21:20:00karamazovapyBULL SHIT.
21:20:00CrazyLinuxNerdsome kids lie.. it's just one of those things, they like to look "big" and "cool"
21:20:00karamazovapythe popular lie here is that you played zap. there's some kind of OG cachet
21:21:00raptori'm sure people will tear his thread to shreds
21:21:00raptorseems to happen to his often enough...
21:21:00karamazovapyI was going to reply and lock it, but I just deleted it instead
21:21:00CrazyLinuxNerd.. because he doesn't make very good threads (imo)
21:22:00karamazovapyhe posted it in Bitfighter Features, too
21:22:00karamazovapytalk about a double whammy
21:24:00CrazyLinuxNerdSo, out of curiosity is there any thread his created that is actually good and contributes to the forum in a positive way? :-P
21:24:00karamazovapyum...let me look.
21:25:00raptori made one once - it was in the announcements
21:25:00raptori think
21:25:00CrazyLinuxNerdI've made a few threads I think, maps I think.
21:30:00karamazovapyI FOUND ONE
21:30:00karamazovapyhttp://bitfighter.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=959
21:30:00CrazyLinuxNerdOMG
21:31:00karamazovapyhis trading cards were kind of lousy, but I liked qui's!
21:31:00karamazovapyqui's made me giggle
21:31:00karamazovapyand he wouldn't have made them if Opti hadn't created the thread
21:32:00CrazyLinuxNerdhmm
21:32:00CrazyLinuxNerdwell done! :-D you found one then.. that's................. amazing
21:32:00karamazovapyit may have been an accident, but it ended well.
21:33:00raptorbe right back... starting in failsafe X
21:33:00raptor Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
21:33:00CrazyLinuxNerdi'm amazed to be honest, imo he always seemed a bit more like a spammer than anything else
21:35:00CrazyLinuxNerdbut at the end of the day, it makes the forum look active.. at least passer-by-ers won't think bitfighter project is dead.
21:35:00karamazovapyyeah
21:35:00karamazovapyand maybe it's a good thing if he gets people's blood up a little bit
21:36:00raptor has joined
21:36:00CrazyLinuxNerdYup, you might want to go get your blood pressure checked at the end of each day though :-D.
21:38:00raptorsam686: did we lower the energy requirements for triple already?
21:41:00karamazovapyI do not buy into this "flag carriers shouldn't be able to shoot" argument at all
21:41:00karamazovapynot even a little bit
21:42:00CrazyLinuxNerdwait what? why the hell not?
21:42:00karamazovapyooof.
21:42:00karamazovapyhttp://bitfighter.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1056
21:42:00CrazyLinuxNerdhow is flag carrier supposed to defend themselves without being able to shoot? :/ that's insane!
21:43:00CrazyLinuxNerdi really dislike that idea
21:43:00karamazovapyyou're not alone
21:44:00CrazyLinuxNerdpicture this: 2v1 match, that person on his own is basically screwed for rest of game no matter what he does..
21:47:00CrazyLinuxNerdi've plained numerous ctf games and have always been able to defend my self, i don't see why it would be bad being able to defend your self. I can see people arguing over who is picking up flag.. no one wants to be left unable to shoot
21:47:00CrazyLinuxNerdplayed*
21:51:00CrazyLinuxNerd goes off to express his views in that thread.
22:00:00CrazyLinuxNerd hopes his post doesn't violate any rules. xD
22:01:00raptoras long as you didn't call a specific person stupid... :)
22:01:00CrazyLinuxNerdnot quite xD
22:02:00CrazyLinuxNerdi'd say it's probably borderline though :/
22:11:00karamazovapypersonally, I'm always a little concerned when BlackBird agrees with me
22:12:00CrazyLinuxNerdwhy so?
22:12:00karamazovapyhe and Opti are neck and neck, racing to the top of the awesome charts
22:13:00CrazyLinuxNerdshould we break the news to them, that we don't really care about whether or not they think their awesome? xD
22:14:00karamazovapyI'm staying away from that one.
22:15:00CrazyLinuxNerd:-)
22:35:00CrazyLinuxNerdhttp://bitfighter.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=991&p=8867#p8867 oh you have got to be kidding me
22:35:00CrazyLinuxNerdonly just noticed that

23:19:00karamazovapyI should lock it.
23:19:00karamazovapyThe selected topic has been locked.
23:21:00karamazovapythat's my favorite forum action of the day.
23:28:00raptorit's good to lock threads that go nowhere and don't contribute
23:29:00karamazovapybobdaduck had to ruin my giggles by posting in a locked thread
23:29:00karamazovapybut now this guy seems to be picking a forum fight with me
