18:46:33sam686I am seeing Bitfighter crash trying to load a file in music folder I put in, which is inside a 7z file http://sam6.25u.com/upload/11110440.7z
18:47:03raptorreally?
18:47:07raptor(hi sam686)
18:47:34sam686other music player plays immediately with so little RAM usage on big WAV file..
18:48:29raptordo i extract the file or play the 7z directly?
18:48:42sam686extract, it won't play 7z directly
18:48:56sam686I only compressed it so it will be tiny download size..
18:49:43raptorhow big is that!!!
18:49:48raptorplease warn me first...
18:49:50sam6863.9 GB
18:49:54raptor!!!
18:50:14raptorah ok
18:50:16raptoryes
18:50:20raptori know the problem
18:50:25sam686one of my computer have 16 GB RAM..
18:50:41raptorbitfighter SoundSystem loads the entire wav files in memory
18:51:01raptorfor music, it does it little bit by bit
18:51:19raptori think i set up 2 or 3 buffers of like 100K or so..
18:51:22sam686but why does it crash if I put it in music folder?
18:51:44raptori don't know...
18:52:04sam686it seem like bitfighter on windows is trying to load the entire WAV into memory..
18:52:17sam686check RAM usage when playing music on bitfighter..
18:52:24raptoryes... i wonder if the SoundSystem is set to always load the whole WAV file..
18:52:36sam686maybe your 64-bit don't have 2/4 GB max ram limit..
18:52:54raptoroh you're running on 32bit?
18:53:13sam686my windows 7 is 64 bit, but bitfighter.exe is only 32 bit..
18:53:51sam686your linux may be totally 64 bit for all programs and stuff like bitfighter..
18:53:57raptoryes, it is
19:05:47raptorsam686: would you like to do some playtesting? most things are ready for release, i think, except that one Lua bug that watusimoto is working on..
19:13:55sam686well ok, but will take about 35 minutes.. Have to eat food..

20:09:30raptorhi
20:09:45raptorsam686: ready for play testing?
20:10:12Little_Appleraptor: just wondering, what was your process for making the core?
20:10:57raptorLittle_Apple: the Core game type?
20:11:14Little_Applethe core model thing whatever
20:12:07raptordefine making?
20:12:10raptorthe graphic itself?
20:12:20raptoror the whole game object?
20:12:30Little_Applethe graphic
20:12:36raptoroh, well...
20:12:44raptori actually made it in-code
20:12:57Little_Appledid you make it entirely with code or an external program- oh ok
20:13:05raptorin-code
20:13:23raptorwatusimoto had an idea and i just made something similar
20:13:28Little_Appleah
20:13:30raptorthen we kept revising it
20:13:46Little_Appleis it in a specific format or something?
20:14:38raptorthis was our starting idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HHRCA6CS8k
20:14:48raptori coded it in OpenGL calls
20:15:04Little_Appleyea i've seen star castle :P
20:15:07raptorso it's just math: draw a polygon, rotate it..
20:16:05raptoryou can see it here in the code, but it might not make much sense to you: https://code.google.com/p/bitfighter/source/browse/zap/gameObjectRender.cpp#1955
20:16:48raptorsam686 did the atom graphic
20:17:32sam686was buzy tring to get ps3 controller to work again, got it working now on windows
20:17:49raptorwas it a driver issue?
20:19:38sam686on windows, there is DS3 which can emulate other controllers like Xinput or other mappings.. Turns out a "PCSX2 with pressure sensitive" works with bitfighter's six axis profile
20:20:57raptorso no code changes
20:26:09raptorok, i'll try compiling dedicated and set up a server to play test
20:28:04BFLogBot Commit: 3f1feeeb5fc5 | Author: buckyballreaction | Message: Fix dedicated compile in Linux
20:28:18raptorok sam686, server is up and is runnign in gdb
20:29:08raptorremoved password... sorry
20:29:54raptorgot black screen...
20:30:03raptoroops
20:30:07raptornope, it crashed
20:30:53raptorcrash: http://pastie.org/6034837
20:32:23sam686crash? I get lagged out..
20:32:34raptortest object suite crashes with the above^^
20:32:56sam686worm::idle?
20:33:27raptoryeah...
20:40:43raptorsam686: password is 'test'
20:43:56sam686was away for a minute. also kindof changed my button layout, as I was too used to dualAction control, hitting the wrong button during loadout changes. Worst: can only change loadout buttons on joystick_presets.ini
20:46:44sam686http://sam6.25u.com/upload/screenshot_101.png (why is triangle white?)
20:46:52raptorlooking
20:47:02raptorthe 'strt' one?
20:47:12raptoroh weird
20:47:18raptori don't know...
20:47:41sam686the triangle button is really green on the controller itself..
20:48:40raptoryes - in the ini you can specify it as green, did you do that?
20:50:17sam686then I wonder why all of them says Color:White?
20:50:44raptorthat's weird
20:50:52raptormaybe the INI is the outside color
20:51:03raptorinside should be green i think
20:52:53sam686the Color:Green works, but it is a bit too much Green, maybe a green-white mix might do..
20:53:09raptordoes it make the outside or inside greeN?
20:53:19sam686also, PSSQUARE and other shapes Color doesn't change nothing..
20:53:22raptori think i may have just forgotten a glColor for the inside...
20:53:35sam686just the triangle is green, the outside stays white
20:53:45raptorinteresting
20:54:38sam686if only i can do Color:40FF40 ...
20:54:58raptorha - that might be a good idea actually
20:55:04raptorwe have that ability in the code
20:55:09raptortoHexString() or something
20:57:46sam686another thing though, my sam test is the latest 018 code.. it has problems with bots not staying in game..
20:58:02raptoryes, that is the one bug watusimoto is working on
20:58:23raptorwe have to ignore that - unless you think you can figure it out
20:58:33raptorhere is his latest question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14655949/why-does-one-work-and-one-crash
20:58:47raptorhe posted about it, hoping for trying to solve it
21:01:20Little_Applesite was down for a second?
21:01:57raptormaybe?
21:03:02sam686i am having a problem with bitfighter freezes trying to go fullscreen..
21:03:14raptoris it spiking the CPU?
21:03:24sam686it seem to want to try to go fullscreen on second monitor, but instead it just freezes//
21:03:33raptorhmm..
21:05:16raptorprobably an SDL2 problem with multiple monitors
21:05:37sam686this is what I see switching to fulscreen http://sam6.25u.com/upload/fullscreen_problem.png
21:06:09sam686sometimes the secondary screen (right side) shows a white border of SDL trying to go sullscreen on that monitor..
21:06:40raptorbut it fails and just sticks in in the middle of both screens?
21:07:12sam686other times, it switches a secondary monitor to a higher resolution the monitor don't support and doesn't freeze.
21:08:16raptorthat's no good...
21:08:56sam686If I put both my monitor the same resolution, switching to fullscreen works, but if fullscreen on secondary monitor, switching back to windowed freezes with missing title bar..
21:10:45raptorhmm... i wonder if there was a recent SDL2 commit for that..
21:11:51raptorok sam686, i need to take a break... i'll look at the SDL2 commits since our revision in a little while
21:12:45sam686then there is the usual problem, switch to 1024x768, start bitfighter windowed, switch back to higher resolution, then make bitfighter go fullscreen. The resolution switches back to 1024x768.

22:38:30raptorWatusimoto: how was fosdem?
22:41:36Watusimotohi
22:41:40raptorhello
22:41:41Watusimotoit was pretty good
22:41:54raptorwhich sessions did you attend?
22:41:54WatusimotoI added up my total cost... somewhere around 130 euros, including food
22:43:38raptorthat doesn't seem too bad
22:43:39Watusimotolots of legal sessions, how to set up a testing framework for games, what java can learn from perl, some scientific computing ones (including radio astronomers dealing with huge data streams), a libre office talk about refactoring, what's new in css, some database stuff... a real hodge podge
22:43:55raptorwow
22:43:58raptorall over the place..
22:44:06Watusimotothe quality was pretty good, generally
22:44:18WatusimotoI did not meet koda, unfortunately
22:44:26raptoryeah... he was looking for you
22:44:41raptorhe said he confronted one person with a hat similar to what you said you'd be wearing
22:44:52Watusimotono one else had a red sox cap
22:45:12Watusimotohe probably met the postgres performance dude
22:45:30Watusimotohe had a baseball cap and looked very american
22:45:46Watusimotobut not the red sox!
22:46:06raptorha
22:46:36Watusimotoso I got lots of ideas for refactoring bitfighter!
22:46:51raptornot before 019 please!
22:46:54raptorbut great!
22:46:55WatusimotoNo
22:46:58Watusimotoof course not
22:47:23WatusimotoI do want to get all rendering code into the UIxxx files
22:47:39Watusimotowe've done some of that already
22:47:41raptorout of the global namespace would be good
22:48:13Nothing_Much_ has joined
22:48:38Watusimotobut in the past I've balked at moving some things, but I'm really not sure why
22:49:11Watusimotoso... logically... all render code should be in a UIxxx file
22:49:27Watusimotomaybe all input handling as well
22:50:03Watusimotothen we can implement stub functions for all the UI stuff... and make a build that we can run tests on!
22:50:16raptorhaha!
22:50:25raptorand abstract all rendering!
22:50:33Watusimotosure!
22:50:34raptorthen port to any framework!
22:50:41Watusimotoonward!
22:51:01Watusimotobut yes, this is post 018a/019
22:51:36Watusimotoone thing I noticed is that foss has a rather striking shortage of women
22:52:03Watusimotowell, I'd characterize it as a near absence
22:52:18raptori believe it
22:52:32raptormostly younger evangelical types, i'd imagine (at least in my experience)
22:52:52Watusimotosome, but it wasn't as bad as you'd think
22:52:53raptortestosterone-driven collegey types
22:53:02Watusimotosame response there
22:53:10raptoroh goood
22:53:13raptorgood
22:53:32Watusimotomost of the presenters seemed rather... normal
22:53:41Watusimotonot all, of course
22:53:48Watusimotoand there were plenty of beards and long hair
22:53:52raptormaybe the FOSS generation is growing up! :)
22:54:01Watusimotobut not as much as you'd think
22:54:26raptori actually don't think i've met any beard/long hair types
22:54:29Watusimotoand it was nice to not work on the lua bug for 2 days
22:54:43Watusimotoyou're in utah. long hair on a dude is illegal.
22:54:59raptorhahaha
22:55:48Watusimotobut the place had a very positive vibe
22:55:49Watusimotoit was nice
22:55:53raptorthat's good
22:56:01raptorsee any openSUSE guys?
22:56:10Watusimotothey had a table
22:56:18raptorbecause if so: i bet one or two i might know
22:56:23Watusimotoperhaps so
22:56:42Watusimotothere were no distro-specific talks that I saw, aside from helenOS
22:56:47Watusimotowhatever that is
22:57:02Watusimotothe BSD people were there with a table
22:57:14WatusimotoI got a bunch of "why you should be using BSD" propaganda
22:57:42Watusimotooracle had a table too
22:57:47Watusimotothat surpised me
22:57:55raptorso what can java learn from perl? :)
22:58:35Watusimotohe talked about communtiy and regular expressions
22:59:00Watusimotosome other stuff too that I can;t recall at the moment
22:59:21Watusimotoa lot of it was why java isn;t as bad as you think
22:59:34Watusimotoand of course it isn't... but it kind of is.
23:00:51raptorhaha
23:02:55WatusimotoI got to hold one of these, though I missed their presentation because I took a wrong turn on the way to the conference this morning
23:02:57Watusimotohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandora_(console)
23:03:12raptorOOooo
23:03:19raptori've heard of that
23:03:31raptoralthough mostly about shortages
23:04:01Nothing_Much_ Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
23:04:09Watusimotolooks pretty neat
23:04:23Watusimototheir brochure says you can purchase from inventory, no waitlist
23:08:18raptorruns GNOME2 i think
23:12:44raptorso for the Lua... (i'm sorry!)
23:13:01raptordid you want to try 5.2 for this release? or wait for 019..
23:13:46Watusimotowait, if we can
23:14:11WatusimotoI'll need to do some work to get it integrated, and I don;t understand it well
23:14:33Watusimotoso if I can fix our bug via normal means, I'd prefer to do that
23:17:54Watusimotoso maybe tonight I'll try reverting luaw to 018, but leaving my other mods in place to see if that is the problem
23:18:15Watusimotodo you know how to revert a single file to a previous revision?
23:18:53raptoryes, just specify the file as an argument: hg revert -r <revision> specific_file
23:19:16Watusimotook... it will be easy enough to test then
23:19:31Watusimotooh, but first I should check my stack overflow question!
23:19:49Watusimotoprobably all the lua coders were at fosdem \
23:20:47raptorsomeone provided a debugging technique
23:21:09raptoroh and the second one, i went through the entire header and found no = instead of ==...
23:24:07WatusimotoI just replied to the 2nd one -- that's definitely not it... i wish it were that easy
23:24:34Watusimotobtw, the =/== mixup, if it existed, would be in s_bot.lua
23:24:52WatusimotoI'm goint to try the debug idea now
23:26:42raptorok
23:26:57raptoryeah, well, i've been sick this whole week and of lesser mental power...
23:26:58Watusimotohmmm.... I never knew you could call pcall from lua... I thought that was only a c++ thing
23:27:05Watusimotosorry to hear that
23:28:08raptori got to stay home and play lots of bitfighter!
23:28:17raptori may have even fixed a bug sometime..
23:28:38Watusimotothis bug may have reduced my mental powers as well...
23:33:22raptorhaha

23:48:59Watusimotowhich I've never seen before
23:49:08Watusimotoprobably from a double delete, somehow?
23:49:19Watusimotoso fixed that (maybe)
23:49:23WatusimotoI wonder if that could be releated
23:49:31Watusimotopossibly
23:49:36raptornever got that before...
23:49:49Watusimotome neither
23:49:58Watusimotonot really sure how it could happen... but it did
