02:54:47fordcars_debMe too ^^
02:57:04fordcars_debI just played with cloakdood for a few minutes on bitfighter
02:57:14raptordid he beat your pants off?
02:57:23raptor(happens to me everytime I play him..)
02:57:27fordcars_debHe says "hi and add my phaser sniper phaser"
02:57:29fordcars_debHah
02:57:37fordcars_debHe didn't really play

02:59:10Nothing_MuchI just realized
02:59:15Nothing_MuchI got a new router
02:59:25Nothing_MuchAnd maybe now I can actually livestream BF without loss of connections!
03:02:02Nothing_MuchWoo!

03:07:09raptorit's our gag for 019 - we had, at one time, a lot of people post questions in the forums that were answered easily in the in-game instructions

03:07:54fordcars_debI guess :3

03:37:21fordcars_debI have a Radeon too
03:37:27fordcars_debWhoop

03:45:04fordcars_debraptor: How can I "commit" to my own clonr?
03:45:17fordcars_deb*Clone
03:45:21raptordo you have a clone?
03:45:40fordcars_debYes
03:45:47raptorwhich one is it?
03:45:47fordcars_debClient and Server
03:45:53fordcars_debcorteocarl-mystery
03:46:12raptorok, and did you check out of that clone or the main bitfighter repo?
03:46:18fordcars_debYep
03:46:25raptorwhich?
03:46:32fordcars_debOh sorry
03:46:38fordcars_debI got that clone
03:46:54raptoroh great
03:47:12raptorok, did you make code changes, compile, and commit?
03:47:16fordcars_debYes
03:47:22fordcars_debWithout the commit part
03:47:27raptorah ok
03:47:42raptorto commit, do: hg commit -u author_name
03:47:43fordcars_debI did hg -u username, but nothing changed :/
03:47:51fordcars_debYeah I did that
03:48:02raptorok, and if you do: hg log
03:48:06raptoryou see your commit?
03:48:07fordcars_debIt did ask me the message, but the commit was instant
03:48:12raptorok good
03:48:22fordcars_debOoooh
03:48:29raptorall commits are locally done
03:48:42raptorso then you need to push the changes to your clone
03:48:44raptorhg push
03:48:44fordcars_debOk
03:48:47fordcars_debAhh ok
03:49:41Platskies Quit (Quit: Sleep time…)

03:51:43raptorok
03:51:44fordcars_debcode.google.com
03:51:45raptorso
03:51:56raptorgoogle code has a different password, and it is auto-generated for you
03:52:08fordcars_debOh k
03:52:22raptorclick on your 'profile' on your project page on google code
03:52:29raptorit will show it to you
03:52:59fordcars_debAh ok
03:53:27fordcars_debYay it worked!
03:53:37fordcars_debIt's ugly code, but it's fancy
03:53:45raptorso
03:54:07raptoryou can add the following section to your ~/.hgrc file so you don't have to enter that credential every time
03:54:29raptorhttp://pastie.org/8966178
03:54:46raptorif you don't have a .hgrc file in your home directory, then just create it
03:55:11fordcars_debSince I use hg as root, do I create it there?
03:55:21raptorYOU ARE ROOT ARE YOU CRAZY
03:55:26fordcars_debOk then
03:55:30raptoryes
03:55:35raptoryou would create it in /root
03:55:41raptorso /root/.hgrc
03:55:46fordcars_debBuuut
03:55:57fordcars_debI thought hg hated non-su users
03:56:08raptorhg runs from anywhere!
03:56:19fordcars_deb:D
03:56:22raptori've never had a problem with normal users
03:56:31raptorwe do it on the master server and I do it here at home
03:56:43fordcars_debAhh okokk
03:56:57fordcars_debI was mixing up hg with apt-get
03:57:18raptoryes, apt-get hates you if you are not root

15:46:35bobdaduckraptor: Every time I make a change to this level in the editor, the memory usage goes up
15:46:47bobdaduckits at 100k now
15:47:36bobdaduckas in like, moving a wall somewhere and then moving it back increases memory usage by like 2k permanently
15:50:57bobdaduckafter restarting, I am still experiencing this
15:51:01YoshiSmb_m Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
15:59:05raptor2k?
15:59:08raptorthat's nothing
15:59:15raptorand perfectly understandable
15:59:21raptorit's because it is saving your 'undo state'
16:00:35bobdaduckits permanent
16:00:55bobdaduckand it takes a full five seconds after pressing the T key for a turret to appear
16:01:17raptorso... 'K' ?
16:01:20raptoror 'M' ?
16:01:25bobdaduckI guess I can see the undo state part
16:01:28raptoralso 5 seconds for a turret? that's crazy
16:01:32bobdaduckbut this is going very very slow
16:01:53raptorhave you been using the editor for a long time?
16:02:05bobdaduckNo, I just barely loaded this up
16:03:39raptorin a big level?
16:03:53bobdaduckDnD
16:04:05bobdaduckCertainly haven't experienced this before though
16:04:45bobdaduck...also it won't let me shift select anything
16:04:59bobdaduckwhoops there it goes
16:05:33bobdaduckI dunno maybe my thumb drive is just getting old
16:06:18raptoroh... it is possible that it is reading/writing a bad sector on the drive
16:06:26raptorthat's would add significant delay
16:07:30bobdaduckfix?
16:08:38raptori'd try the same level from a folder on your hard drive
16:08:52raptorand I'd back up all data on the USB drive as quickly as possible
16:12:25bobdaduckindeed that seemed to fix it
16:12:30bobdaduckback up the usb drive?
16:12:40bobdaduck drags levels folder onto desktop
16:12:43bobdaduckokay check
16:12:46bobdaduckbut why?
16:13:09raptorso
16:13:26raptormany people don't run into this because they usually lose the flash drive first, but
16:13:58raptora flash drive has millions/billions of little data 'areas' that are written to, that store each byte
16:14:17raptorwell, because of the technology, those little areas 'wear out'
16:14:53raptorusually heat degradation changes the structure just slightly enough to make it unusable
16:15:16bobdaduckhm, I have noticed my flash drive gets hot
16:15:26raptorthe flash drive itself usually has software built in that can detect the bad areas and move the data to a good area
16:15:47raptorbut, it can only do this a number (usually in the millions) of times
16:15:55raptorand space can slowly disappear over time
16:16:21raptordegradation usually occurs when writing, not reading from the drive
16:16:22bobdaduckI've only had the drive for like a year or two?
16:16:39raptorso when you use it for running programs that write many, many times to it, it'll speed up degradation
16:16:46raptorI've had it happen to me once
16:17:23raptori used a flash drive as way to boot up a different operating system at the library so I could get around the security restrictions :)
16:17:34bobdaducklol
16:17:39raptorneedless to say, when used as an OS, it is written to many, many times
16:17:43raptorand it actually wore out
16:17:49bobdaduckhow long did that take?
16:17:56raptori think about a year
16:18:36raptorso writing a lot of data once will not wear it out as fast as writing a little data lots of times
16:18:52raptorthat's why I have some flash drives that are like 4 years old and have no problems still
16:20:18bobdaduckhm
16:20:36bobdaduckMy drive is too young to wear out!
16:20:42bobdaduckit still has 30 GB of free space!
16:20:50raptorwhen they start doing that behavior... it's usually best to not use them for things you really want to keep
16:21:01raptorwell..
16:21:34raptorif you save everything on it, then do a full reformat on it, then copy things back - it will probably save the data back to good spots
16:21:56raptorthe full reformat should catch the bad spots and 'mark' them as 'don't write to me!'
16:23:13bobdaduckheh, okay

21:19:43raptorit's been a while since we've had one..
21:19:43Nothing_MuchI don't think so :(
21:20:02raptorit's basically just a planned event where we expect more people to show up and play bitfighter
21:20:25raptorthey usually go for about 4 hours and we play lots of maps
21:20:29Watusimotohi
21:20:49raptorbut the main idea is to have something planned so people know ahead of time to show up

21:21:48Nothing_MuchYeah
21:21:54raptoractually - sam686 has done once before... not sure how
21:21:59Nothing_MuchI figured it out, then my 2nd router died
21:22:01Nothing_MuchOh really?
21:22:04Nothing_MuchTwitch or Youtube?
21:22:13Nothing_MuchAnd did he have commentary?\
21:22:15raptornot sure - but some sort of flash stream
21:22:35raptorno, it was just a live recording of what was going on on his desktop
21:22:37Nothing_Muchsadly yes, f*cking flash player is required to live stream :x

21:25:21raptoroh boy!
21:25:23raptornew code!
21:27:00Watusimotoit looks like I hadn't pushed for a while
21:27:08Watusimotothe turret stuff is pretty old
21:27:11WatusimotoI was sure that was in
21:27:33raptorok, do you have more coming? there's at least one compile error I can fix...
21:27:42Watusimotono
21:27:56WatusimotoI have a parallel branch to check in, but that's it for my current branch
21:28:08Watusimotowell, the parallel branch is a long way from being ready
21:28:20WatusimotoI've pretty much forgotten what is on it...
21:28:29Watusimotowait... compile error?
21:28:51raptoryep
21:28:59raptorlet me see... it may be a missing semicolon
21:30:07Watusimotowhy did I think this included turret related work?
21:30:35raptornot sure... i thought that was all in
21:31:16Watusimotoit apparently was
21:32:11Watusimoto(and btw, I know the new color tests are not yet included in cmake
21:32:13Watusimoto)
21:33:46raptorok, you used 'typename'
21:34:25Watusimotothat should be interchangable with class, but I should have used class
21:34:32Watusimotofor consistency
21:35:02WatusimotoI'll change it
21:35:11raptorwait wait
21:35:20raptori'm trying to work through another weird error
21:36:58Watusimotook, I am pretty sure it was compiling at that last checkin
21:37:03Watusimotoat least for me
21:37:07raptoryes... in visual studio
21:38:57raptoralso your indentation seems to randomly change between 2 - 4 spaces
21:39:01raptori'll fix that too
21:39:41raptorso far it's compiling!
21:42:19Watusimotoso it was an indention problem?
21:42:26raptorjust pushed
21:42:29Watusimotothat probably came from copy/paste shenanigans
21:42:31BFLogBot Commit: bf3b4cd08253 | Author: buckyballreaction | Message: Fix compiling in Linux. Also fix indentation
21:42:33raptorit was a missing 'typename' specifier
21:42:43WatusimotoI just compiled it again here.
21:42:49Watusimotoso I don't know what's going on

22:21:29Watusimotoyes
22:21:36Watusimotoit's all header code now, alas
22:22:06WatusimotoI am trying to get rid of the 5 lines beginning with EnumParser<DisplayMode> displayModeEnumParser;
22:22:35WatusimotoI feel that there should be a way to generate those with a template. That would allow us to get rid of over half of our specializations
22:23:23raptorcast to int?
22:24:55Watusimotonot sure if it would work, but it would feel dirty
22:25:04raptorWe have a bad Lua crashing problem in 019b
22:25:21raptorit doesn't crash in Linux, but in Windows (it probably shoudl crash in Linux)
22:25:32Watusimotowhat's the problem?
22:26:04raptorbasically any API call you make that fails the checkArgsList, it will crash
22:26:13raptorit's this one - https://code.google.com/p/bitfighter/issues/detail?id=411
22:26:29raptorit's some weird exception in an exception unwinding problem
22:27:01raptorI think I may have introduced it in 019b, but I'm not sure how...
22:28:41raptorI've been trying to solve it for 3 nights in a row (only about for an hour each)
22:28:48raptori'm not any closer
22:29:59WatusimotoI'm getting sleepy, but will take a look
22:35:00raptorwell, i'm not sure i'd take a look while sleepy... it's been a tricky one for me so far (but maybe not for you)
22:37:17Watusimotohere's what I see
22:37:17Watusimotohttp://i.imgur.com/06YwrtP.png
22:37:30Watusimotorunning this script
22:37:31Watusimotohttp://hastebin.com/rucevegima.levelgen
22:37:57Watusimotothat seems reasonable to me
22:38:42raptorwhoa
22:38:45raptorthat's weird
22:39:02Nothing_Muchwhat's wrong with the OSX buidl?
22:39:04raptorrun that script with a release copy of bitfighter
22:39:04Nothing_Much*build
22:39:33raptorthis is the same issue: https://code.google.com/p/bitfighter/issues/detail?id=413
22:40:07Watusimotoshould I rebuild in release mode?
22:40:09raptorat least, i think it is
22:40:46raptori'd just run it in the portable download or the installed version of Bitfighter (if you have that)
22:43:33Watusimotoif it works on the current code base, I'd be inclined to close the bug
22:43:54WatusimotoI'm rebuilding in release mode now
22:44:14raptorwell... i still get the bug
22:44:34raptori don't crash, but the string output is empty for me because the string was lost on the stack
22:45:27Watusimotoyou get it in debug mode?
22:45:42raptoryes
22:45:46Watusimotoweird
22:46:00Watusimotocould it be related to the level file itself somehow?
22:46:18Watusimotook, forget release mode
22:46:24Watusimoto3671 errors
22:46:33Watusimotojust seems like a bit much for the moment
22:46:35raptorwhoa
22:46:44raptoryeah, just plop it into the portable build
22:46:55raptori've duplicated the error on many different levels
22:47:21raptorand with various triggers of checkArgsList() by inputting bad arguments in several different API calls

22:50:51raptorok, thanks
22:51:57Tazinatorto be clear I was talking about bot:fireWeapon(Weapon.Triple)
22:52:10Tazinatorwell the bot fire weapon way
22:52:33Tazinatoruhh nvm i am hardly understandable atm. anyway
22:52:45Watusimotoon stock bitfighter, I get this

22:55:35Nothing_Much Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
22:55:37raptorWatusimoto: try doing an API call besides events - events didn't have checkArgsList in 019b, i fixed that shortly afterwards
22:55:56raptorI like to do this:
22:55:57raptorlocal t = TestItem.new("hello")
22:55:59amgine123cool taz does that mean players shoot asteroids ?
22:55:59raptorbf:addItem(t)
22:56:15amgine123hmm
22:56:18Watusimotot should... be nil?
22:56:25amgine123thats a idea make a level where all weps are asteroids
22:56:57Tazinatoramgine: hilarious... but, how would you keep score?
22:57:24raptorno, script shoudl crash because TextItem.new() takes geom not string
22:57:28amgine123whoever has teh highest score at the end would win obvoiusly
22:57:41Tazinatorasteroids i dont think count towards score
22:57:41Watusimotoso really only need the first line
22:57:43amgine123shot ing would lower your oppenets score

23:00:51Tazinatoruhh can someone help my levelgen?
23:00:57Watusimotooh hey fordcars_deb
23:01:08TazinatorI just need to define local bursts from the bursts in findallobjectsinarea
23:01:13raptorthis is what i see with that exact same script: http://pastie.org/pastes/8968713/text
23:01:18WatusimotoI looked around earlier, and I'll send you a link on private channel
23:01:51fordcars_debOkok, but I need to find a better way to goet points, doing it in gimp takes ages
23:03:42amgine123this is hopless I cant figure out how to do this
23:03:44amgine123http://pastie.org/8968720
23:04:47amgine123more legibal version http://pastie.org/8968722
23:08:25Tazinatorim really new to lua coding
23:08:50Tazinatorwhat about the function main ends
23:08:59Tazinatorand then the elseif after the end
23:09:12Tazinatordoesnt the ends go to the two ifs before elseif?

23:18:37Watusimotoraptor: what could be different?
23:18:43Watusimotoyou are running windows, no?
23:18:50Watusimotobuilt with vc++, from a recent code base
23:18:54raptorI am running Linux
23:19:12Watusimotoah, ok, but you got the same error on vc++, no?
23:19:17WatusimotoI thought you said that earlier
23:19:36raptorin the debugger, the e.what() in the exception catch is garbage characters which first led me to believe it was a string issue
23:19:45raptorno
23:20:01Watusimotook, so maybe this is a linux-only error
23:20:07raptori only know that fordcars_deb crashes on win8 and Tazinator crashes on osx and I get weird string errors on Linux
23:20:14Watusimotohmmmm
23:21:02raptorwell, if you can't on win7? then i'll just have to continue trying to figure it out
23:21:24Watusimotolet me try a full rebuild in release mode
23:21:47Watusimotomaybe it's a string pointer issue that doesn't show up in debug mode for some reason
23:22:22raptori thought it was a string issue - i changed a lot of code to use const string &str instead of const char*
23:22:31raptorand I made string copies everywhere
23:23:04raptorand still had the problem... so my new theory is its and exception-in-exception issue and the stack unwinding is causing some error
23:23:10raptor*it's an

23:34:35raptorhmm... i thought you could.. let me see
23:35:32SkybaxIf you go to the Seach function and search for nothing, it SEEMS like it's gonna show you all of them, but then it only goes down alphabetically to boatse.cx
23:36:35raptortry selecting one gametype
23:36:46raptorif kaen were around he'd know something else - he wrote it
23:37:30amgine123raptor do oyu know where i could get teh upgraed S_bots ive seen them before
23:37:55raptoryes, somewhere in the source code... let me find a specific revision
23:39:19raptoramgine123: here it is: https://bitfighter.googlecode.com/hg-history/c8559dd8418e0b4b33e82d213aaccdf2308cdb4f/resource/robots/s_bot.bot
23:39:30Skybaxraptor, it still only shows a set amount of levels
23:39:36raptorhmm... rats
23:39:49raptorthere's probably some sneaky way to show everything...
23:40:04SkybaxWhere's Kapitan Kaen when you need him??
23:40:05Tazinatorplease do tell how to show all levels
23:40:19raptori will as soon as i find out! (if it's possible)

23:44:55Tazinatoramgine did your pastie ever get fixed?
23:45:00amgine123is it possible to code S_bot to use certin wep sets and modules based on gametype and what your oppenets state is ?
23:45:07amgine123nope im stuck i dont know what to do for this part
23:45:21amgine123why doest s_bot use modules ?
23:46:14Tazinatoramgine: yes, but it'd be easier imo to make your own bot
23:46:48Tazinatorbecause shield is the most mechanical module
23:47:03Tazinatorrepair, cloak and turbo take human smarts
