13:15:37watusimotohowdy howdy
13:16:37watusimotoI wrote up some documentation about the /lockteams feature, and realized there was a circumstance I hadn't tested; while writing yet more tests to cover that, I found a rather significant bug that was covered only incidently in that last round of tests
13:16:41watusimotoblech
13:50:26raptortoday i was fired!
13:51:02raptorI was going to leave a week from friday anyways... but they've generously decided to sever me

15:28:00watusimotothey fired you?????
15:28:05raptorit's great!
15:28:10watusimotowhy on earth??
15:28:20raptori'm sticking around until my account is deactivated later today
15:28:26watusimotothey knew you were leaving, so... why?
15:28:35raptorrestructuring since the merger in November
15:28:39raptorfinally happening today
15:28:46raptorbecause they were generous
15:28:52watusimotoI'd expect they'd just let you fall off the list
15:29:00raptorand it probably let the middle managers keep another guy whose place I took
15:29:07watusimotoso... two weeks pay?
15:29:32watusimotoif so, it seems they just gave you 2 weeks vacation
15:29:33raptoruntill next paycheck (15 Apr.) + 1 week * 7 years of service
15:29:46raptorso i got a severance package
15:29:55watusimotoah, so if you had just quit, you'd get nada
15:30:09raptoryes - so it has worked out much, much better, if a bit abrupt
15:30:16watusimotoabsolutely
15:30:26watusimotoso they were being generous
15:30:30watusimotowell... great!
15:30:36watusimotocongratulations!
15:31:22watusimotobefore leaving Luxembourg, both places I quit previuosly gave everyone raises just after I left
15:31:35watusimotokind of the opposite of your situation
15:32:38raptorthat's... yeah, the opposite

17:15:48JeffMBraptor: have you ever looked at Angel Script?
17:16:14JeffMBim liking its speed in native calls
17:16:26JeffMBfrom some benchmark, it was smoking luajit
17:16:37JeffMBwhich i know that lua sucks at going from lua -> native
17:17:21raptorHi, sorry I'm off-and-on a lot
17:17:31JeffMBoh its fine, same here :P
17:17:35raptorI highly doubt there's anything that beats luajit, but i haven't seen that...
17:18:24JeffMBwell, the benchmark was in Urho 3D. where they support both luajit and angel script. they did 2000 sprites updating per frame with native calls from the scripting language. angel script got 3.5mspf and luaJit got 8.3mspf
17:18:57JeffMBand regular lua got 11.5mspf
17:20:51raptorthat's hardly lua processing, though - lua would need to make C api calls to do the graphics rendering and by that time it isn't JIT code anymore
17:22:36JeffMBright
17:22:40JeffMBwhich is why i mentioned: [17:16] <JeffMB> im liking its speed in native calls
17:22:43JeffMB;)
17:23:04JeffMBi have no doubt luaJIT surpasses speed when it says inside of lua
17:25:06watusimotoI think the trick is to try to reduce api calls -- if you have a lot of small calls, push the functionality out to lua, and stay in one environment as much as possible
17:25:56watusimotobut the reall question to me is what is it about anglescript that makes it perform? faster api to c++? faster calculation performance?
17:26:00raptorah yes, you did say native calls
17:26:08raptori bet it's the faster api
17:26:11raptormaybe...
17:26:28watusimotoit could be; though I don't know why the lua api would be particularly slow
17:26:44watusimotoreplace "would be" with "is"
17:39:58watusimotolooks like the AS interface to C++ is more direct... i.e. can directly call and access C++ code/objects
17:40:57raptorno stack to have fun with!
17:50:08JeffMByep no callstack like lua
17:50:47JeffMBthat damn push/pop off the stack gets me. from looking at the docs so far from AS, seems neater and more c++ oriented
17:52:15raptori don't doubt it
17:52:32raptorthe Lua stack is a fun journey for anyone wanting to use it...
18:05:45watusimotoI could live without the stack, that's for sure... though in BF we created some tools to make it easier
