14:02:43watusimotohi kaadmy
14:02:52kaadmyhi watusimoto
14:02:56kaadmywas i playing with you yesterday>
14:02:58watusimotowhat you said is true, sadly
14:03:01watusimotono
14:03:10watusimotobut
14:03:14watusimotozemmer?
14:03:21watusimotoI think he was on yesterday
14:03:44watusimotoI'm the lead dev, I don't play so much
14:07:52kaadmynot sure, forget who i was playing with ;)
14:08:31kaadmyany idea why nobody plays this game?
14:08:42kaadmybtw is there supposed to be anti-aliasing for the lines :/
14:08:58kaadmythey look kinda bad, all pixellated and broken up
14:15:07watusimotoThe problem with BF is that you really need multiple players for it to be fun (though we do have bots that are not terrible). We've always had a critical mass problem, and then last summer we were hacked, which shut us down for a bit, and we lost one of our key players. After that, things kind of fell apart.
14:15:26watusimotoNot sure about the anti-aliasing... could you send me a screen shot?
14:15:32watusimotoThe lines should be smooth
14:16:08kaadmyhmm
14:16:13kaadmymaybe my machine doesn't support it?
14:16:53kaadmywait they do look pretty smooth
14:17:12kaadmythere seems to be hinting that keeps jittering
14:17:44kaadmylook at the menu text https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/sANDmura/bitfighter_aa.png
14:20:59watusimotoThat is weird
14:21:19watusimotothe menu text is actually drawn as a series of connected points; the green text is a real font
14:21:49watusimotoat the bottom, the key symbols aer likewise drawn, whereas the text is a font
14:22:26watusimotoI'm assuming you weren't messing around with your INI -- there are some settings in there that might be related.
14:23:13watusimotoAnd lines in the game look likewise glitchy?
14:23:43kaadmyyou can see in the background; it seems the line ends are moving around by subpixel bounraraies
14:23:51kaadmyboundaries*
14:24:42watusimotoDo you have anything weird for a graphics card?
14:25:48kaadmyintel integrated, and a lot of opengl stuff seems broken for me ;)
14:25:53kaadmy:|
14:26:15watusimotoI have the same (laptop). We use opengl...
14:26:40watusimotowe're going to be redoing the graphics in the next release, if we ever get there
14:26:48kaadmy*if*, sadly
14:26:55kaadmybzflag is in a similar state
14:26:55watusimotoI was doing some coding last night
14:27:10watusimotoah, bzflag
14:27:11kaadmynearly everyone left, updates are getting sparse in the last couple years
14:27:14watusimotothey had tons of players
14:27:37kaadmywhen i first started playing a few years ago, there were 100s of players at any time :(
14:27:37watusimotoyou could always find a game. that was what I aspired to for BF
14:28:27kaadmyand could ship loadouts be saved?
14:28:32watusimotoyes
14:28:41watusimotoctrl+1,2,3
14:28:43kaadmyit's annoying spawning and setting a loadout every map
14:28:44kaadmyah
14:28:59watusimotorecall with shift+1,2,3, I think
14:29:05watusimotoit's in the help
14:29:11kaadmyah
14:29:19kaadmyhaven't leeked at that in detail yet ;)
14:29:21watusimotobut you still need to find a loadout zone
14:29:21kaadmylooked*
14:29:44watusimotoeverything is in the help... i'm pretty agressive about keeping that updated
14:30:32watusimotoif bzflag has tanked, that doesn't make me hopeful
14:31:43kaadmyanother thing is that having the ship's health shown as the ship's middle line is quite confusing
14:31:53kaadmycouldn't find the health indicator for a while
14:35:37kaadmyhmm, and the loadout saving/recalling uses the current loadout, not the selected one...
14:35:45kaadmyneed to be on a loadout zone to save
14:35:51kaadmyor it saves the wrong one
14:40:44kaadmywhat are "test items" for? dynamic barriers/physics testing?
14:44:12watusimotoFor your ship, or enemy ships?
14:44:23kaadmyall ships
14:44:26kaadmymine included
14:44:33watusimotoit should save your active loadout
14:44:35kaadmy^ health indicator
14:44:37kaadmyyes
14:44:57kaadmythe loadout saving seemed a little unintuitive at first
14:45:06kaadmyyou have to switch to that active loadout first
14:45:18kaadmynot the selected one that you switch to when you enter a loadout zone
14:45:42watusimotoWe're considering adding a health bar for your ship in the ll, below the energy bar. May already be done for 020
14:46:00kaadmyalso, what's the speex library used for?
14:46:08watusimotovoice chat
14:46:10kaadmyah
14:46:15watusimotoyou can talk to team members
14:46:18kaadmyi don't use voice chat anyway ;)
14:46:22watusimotome neither
14:46:30watusimotoI don't think I've ever even tried it.
14:46:37kaadmyany way to disable it? i can't compile it with it in
14:46:46watusimotobefore we had game music, one guy used it to broadcast music
14:46:57kaadmyhmm that sounds backwards :D
14:47:10watusimotoI don't know about leaving it out
14:47:13kaadmyvoice chat before bg music? strange dev direction :DD
14:47:24watusimotoour build master is raptor, and he's been out of touch for a while
14:47:29watusimotohe did a lot to reduce dependencies
14:47:38watusimotoI'll send him an email
14:47:58kaadmyjust an option to disable voice would be nice
14:48:36watusimotowhat platform are you on?
14:48:46watusimotolinux, I'm guessing?
14:49:17kaadmyyep :)
14:49:40kaadmy^ i already have speex's libraries, just not headers
14:49:51watusimotowhy not install the headers?
14:50:15watusimotoaren't they listed in the dependencies required to build?
14:50:35kaadmynot root here :(
14:50:48watusimotoyou need to be root to add those?
14:50:53kaadmyi think so
14:51:06watusimoto(I no longer use linux often, so I'm losing my touch)
14:51:27kaadmyi could probably figure out a way to disable speex anyway
14:51:57watusimotoI just sent my query to raptor
14:52:00kaadmybtw; is there a public repository for the source?
14:52:05watusimotoyes
14:52:07watusimotoon github
14:52:10kaadmynvm
14:52:22kaadmyit's listed as "project", not "source" or "downloads" :D
14:52:32watusimotowe're different
14:52:41watusimotobetter, I like to think
14:52:44watusimoto:-)
14:52:49kaadmy:]
14:53:51watusimotoWe avoid the whole root/admin thing on windows by having a portable install
14:53:56kaadmyyeah
14:54:22watusimotoHave you tried the standalone package?
14:55:02kaadmyyeah
14:55:19watusimotoWe build that for desura (if they're still alive, not sure), and it seemed to work for regular users
14:55:19kaadmyit works, but i want to play with the source ;)
14:55:29watusimotoand you want to build
14:55:32kaadmythis one i used: http://bitfighter.org/files/bitfighter-019e-linux-standalone.tar.gz
14:55:43watusimotoand you can't because of speex
14:55:44kaadmycloning the github repo right now ;)
14:55:49watusimotohave at it
14:55:54watusimotoI can answer questions
15:01:18watusimotoone quick thing, is every object has an idle (called every tick to change state) method and a render method (for drawing). It's easiest to start looking at an object of interest, and focus on one of those two methods. Don't start in main unless you are a masochist.
15:01:58watusimotoAll the UI screens are their own object (with idle/render)
15:05:23kaadmyok
15:05:36kaadmyi just want to mostly play around with visuals
15:05:47kaadmyie. play with hinting, antialiasing, etc

15:11:57kaadmyokay, got cmake finish
15:12:01kaadmycompiling now
15:19:58kaadmyuh, where's the compiled binary supposed to be>
15:20:20kaadmycd build; cmake .. <custom libs>; make
15:23:46watusimotoexe folder?
15:24:02watusimotoI don't actually know for sure
15:24:22kaadmynot there
15:24:35kaadmywhat's the target supposed to be for the game client?
15:25:16kaadmymake's output when compiling the second time https://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/yGIf8C1A/bitfighter_make_output.txt
15:25:28kaadmyi think the client isn't getting compiled
15:25:46watusimotono, it isn't
15:25:52watusimotothe target is probably "bitfighter"
15:25:57watusimotoit should be built by default
15:26:46kaadmydoesn't seem to be :|
15:28:24koda Quit (Quit: koda)
15:29:58watusimotoI'm assuming you followed thiese instructions, which I just noticed need to be updated for github

15:33:16kaadmynot a target afaik
15:33:24watusimotodang
15:33:33kaadmynot a target :(
