Automatic map downloader for forums

I htink someone should make an application to automatically download levels into .level from code boxes and directly into your levels folder. The title should automatically be made using the level's title, but if no title is available, it will ask you what name to save it as. Then you can download levels at a push of a button!

Or at least, please allow uploads of .level as an attachment.

i don't know why raptor always loves to post levels in a code box. Attachments make it so much easier!

I've brought this up before, actually.

Converting from level code into a new .level file isn't that hard though, and takes maybe a minute tops. Not all that inefficient. An automatic downloader would be nice though, yes.

One of the items on our to-do list is a function to allow you to paste levelcode directly into the editor. That should make it a little easier to get code from the forums into a playable levelfile.

We should research how the game 'xmoto' does it. They maintain some sort of database of levels that can be updated and download in-game.

Re: Automatic map downloader for forums

maybe if a level is posted on the forums it could go to a level database on the site that can be accessed by the bitfighter application itself? that would be pretty cool imo

Re: Automatic map downloader for forums

An in-game level database would be pretty sweet, but I wonder just how mountainous of a task it would be for the devs? Seems to my non-programmer self like the copy/paste thing is more feasible, but good idea nonetheless.

It would be mountainous. But, it would provide real benefit, too

Well, you know, something that provides great benefit is often mountainous, BUT it is worth it! ;)
