Trash Can, Throw Old Threads Away

We need a trash can in the bitfighter forums for very old posts.
For example this thread viewtopic.php?f=9&t=93&p=628#p628 is over a year old and the link to the game doesn't even work. We need a little cleaning up around here. ;)

Re: Trash Can, Throw Old Threads Away

Sometimes it's nice to keep old posts and discussions so we can go back and review past conversations when similar questions or topics come up again.

It's silly to delete old threads without any real reason to do so. For the most part, people let dead threads sit there quietly. They're not hurting anybody.

It's almost 2 years old, just let someone re-post the thread if they want to.

Or just have that someone not worry about doing the extra work by keeping the post.

It's nice to have the context of old discussions. We're not going to go through and delete all of them. There is no good reason to do so, and a couple very good reasons not to do so.

So your very good point has been made, and I no longer see the point of this thread.

Re: Trash Can, Throw Old Threads Away

Then why I see people complain about bumping old threads? :| (doesn't happen often)

Re: Trash Can, Throw Old Threads Away

People complain about bumping old threads when it happens for no reason.

For example, we now have music support in the game where we didn't before. If someone bumped an old music thread to talk about the old ideas in the context of our new framework, that would be an acceptable bump.

By contrast, if there's an old, dead argument about adding a particular object to the game and someone bumps that thread with "I think this should be a feature!", it's not really a helpful bump. Nothing worthwhile has been added to that conversation, and there's no real reason to dredge it up.

If it's dead, why not throw it away?

...because it's still useful to have the context of that old conversation when new issues arise, and there may be changes in either the game or community that breathe new life into old issues.
