Locking Threads

Con Sarnit _k. Stopping locking all the good off-topic threads. You even locked a PONY thread. A PONY THREAD! I'm missing out on some great trolling opportunities because of you. Besides I thought the off-topic thread was supposed to be random as knrl and lead to all sorts of bad places.
Off-topic is where the FUN happens. Off-Topic is my main domain.

I think you are missing out on some opportunities because you are not visiting the forum at least every day.

Re: Locking Threads

Well I was the one who started the pony thread, so I decided to lock it once the ponydom had been thoroughly exhausted.

In general though, the locks go on when it looks like the thread is about to take a nasty turn. Often, the thread DOES take a nasty turn, we go in and remove the "whatthehellwashethinking" post(s) and close it down.

Off-Topic is kind of a free-for-all, but we don't want genuine non-joking nastiness to spread and contaminate the community.

So basically you're trying to not repeat Drex's infamous rule?

I like how he locks threads and usually doesn't delete blackbirds and La's posts. Hmm. (also this thread is under two sections)

Seriously what's half cat and half horse?

I think he's just ignoring bb and la since they're always like that. :|
They're just special. :D Need more happy birds and fruits.

P.S. In other words you letting La and BB kill threads by posting bogus/insults? Seems like more work for you. I'm actually trying to have a conversation even though it leads to dirtiness unintentionally. I guess... :?

I haven't seen much positive posts from BB or LA recently. :|

Re: Locking Threads

The line I (personally) draw, and I am not the only person moderating, is that there's a difference between disagreeing - even rudely - and just insulting others.

The reason you don't notice all the posts I delete is that they were gone before you ever read them. The forums are my browser's homepage, so I am almost always the first person to view a post.

If anyone feels like their posts are getting deleted too often, I have simple advice. Read what you've written before you click submit. Is your post mostly constructive, or do you resort to name calling or insulting others? Even if you make some good points, a phrase like "PLAYER is an idiot" will probably get your post deleted. I don't really believe in editing other people's posts.

In general, keep your drama to yourself.

Would you apply that to this?: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1274&p=11531#p11531

Re: Locking Threads

I think if you start a thread called "Trolling", you are asking to be trolled.

Unless a worthwhile discussion is going on, topic starters can generally request to have their own threads locked.

Also, why can't we all just get along?

Re: Locking Threads

Somehow, I think that the definition of "Off-topic" has been skewed.
It says "Non Bitfighter chat." In my mind, this means interesting and intelligent topics that simple don't relate to Bitfighter. I.E. other games, interesting news, exciting life events, that sort of thing.
Not retarded threads whose only purpose is to let people explore their childish side. Off-topic doesn't mean gibberish.

Re: Locking Threads

It's for la and bb to troll on (of course there's a reason for the thread...DUH). Plus I didn't give direct insults to anyone; however La and BB usually do. So...yeah...you saying indirectly insulting someone is legit? (I used to do this, but yall kids can't handle it) viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1225&p=11489#p11489

In general, mind your own business if there's no insults/inappropriateness in it. It's just a thread about a bird game after all. It's gets annoying when the referee won't let the football players actually play the game from all the petty penalties.

Re: Locking Threads

It's okay to say you think someone's idea is worthless. It's rude, but I wouldn't delete a post for that reason.

It's not okay for you to say that another member of our community is worthless. That's directly insulting someone and would be grounds for deletion.

However, there have been times when a post was so thoroughly rude and negative (without direct insult) that I deleted it anyway because it took the thread to such a nasty place.

A post like "this thread is dumb" may not be appreciated and it may be quite rude, but it's not a personal attack.

Edit:
Also, in regard to your link, the posts "You are brain." and "He is not brain!" are utterly stupid and worthless, but not personal attacks.

I agree somewhat, its nice to have maybe 3 or 4 "Gibberesh" posts, but also might nice to have still CIVILIZED topics.
if you're reading this, i'm sorry for how cringe my old posts are. i rarely play BF anymore, but if you ever want to find me, you can catch me on steam, or on discord @ muddy#7969

Usually "civilized" topics become somewhat uncivilized because some very uncivilized people post one sentenced posts, or just spam random gibberish, and people respond likewise.
