Ideally that's what the * pleiades * server is intended to do - once we get enough map votes, I can filter out the good ones and start a new server with the best maps
But there's a difference between "good" maps and "beginner/basic" maps. They are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but they aren't necessarily the same either. For example, maps like Endless War or Honeycomb that promote more complex levels of play as opposed to maps like Galaxy Crossover or Monki's Dash. If that made any sense?
If I could take a look at the maps, I can see for myself. :P
But yeah, it's pretty much what you said, beginner maps should be reserved in a server.

So it would make the game appear more "serious" on some level.
The Pleiades server will not do what was described. I hope that it will be a source of good, well liked maps, but it will not be limited by game mode. Maybe what we need is a server with just Bitmatch games on it, as that one is the easiest to understand right out of the gate.
Re: Donations, yes, people that show interest will show even more interest to other people. Throwing money at something indicates that.
Re: Pleiades, yes, it's got good maps, but a lot of them too with many different game modes, which may confuse beginners.
When games first come out, there's normally not many game modes that appear, FPS games normally have a couple (2 or 3 max), such as Deathmatch, CTF, and Capture Points. Bitfighter has lots of modes, I counted at least 9. That's both good and not good for what it's worth.
On one hand, lots of choices, woo! On the other hand, lots of choices.. oi..
So yeah, I would request a "Beginner's" or "Basic" or "24/7 Deathmatch/Bitmatch" server! I tried but sadly my current setup for the house can't handle a dedicated server. :(
