Bot Army

Bots from the _k server seemed to be specialized and they work together pretty well sometimes. For example one bot uses cloak, another shield, another repair, another triple, another bouncers, and another armor. If bots are put together and each one is programmed to have different roles or weapons, you can make the ultimate army of bots. This would be fun for Player VS Bot games (along with turrets maybe).

Also, I find it interesting that most bots don't use turbo. They would be more deadly if they have turbo.

Dmitri/Mitya uses turbo sparingly, for what it's worth.

Cool could they get the code from those two bots and put it on the default ones?

The kServ bots are public - viewtopic.php?f=12&t=756 - anyone can use them.

Re: Bot Army

I said default bots...like the ones you already get in any server, even your own. I see no point in not having it and players have to code things in the game themselves. Just make it part of the default settings...have a new patch?

Players are ignorant with code usually.

Re: Bot Army

All you need to do is download them and drop the files in your Bots folder. I'm not sure there's been an official release since I posted the modified code. I have no problem with them being included, but the loadout code is pretty hackish.

Re: Bot Army

Well if you keep stacking notes in your backpack, it ends up being a mess of useful information that is now almost unusable. Organization is needed with all types of data, even your brain.

The default bots only use shield and plasma ammo. I think they should use turbo to chase after players. The bots shouldn't use the loadout zone (because they have no brain), so I don't understand that flaw there, if there is one.

Re: Bot Army

The kServ bots all use different loadouts. Currently, bots can't "break the rules", so if you want them to use different modules or weapons, they have to use loadout zones.

S_bot (which is the default) has aggression and defense settings that can be used to create flag retrieval or flag defense behavior. You can even toggle those settings as you add bots, but most players either don't know how or don't care to enter the appropriate arguments. The functionality is there, though. You could change the settings and save different versions as defense.bot and offense.bot and add those as a shortcut, if you wanted to.

Re: Bot Army

That's if you were hosting a server, if you use someone else's server...I don't think you can use your own code in their server because it's a different computer.

Also, after you die, you automatically have the different modules or weapons. Not all maps have loadout zones anyways. Just have the bots die (play with current defaults) and they change.

If you are on a map WITH load out zones, and die, you DO NOT get your custom load out. Just sayin.

Re: Bot Army

The s_bot code is written to accept arguments, so you can set them to whatever you want when you add a bot. This is true no matter whose server it is, unless they've modified the bot code.

We've also wrestled a bit with loadout mechanics. It's certainly changed over time, and the non-default-loadout-retention-in-levels-without-loadout-zones is sort of new. I, personally, hate it. But that might put me in the minority. Not sure at this point.

Anyway! You should be able to add smarter, dumber, more aggressive, or more defensive bots by adding arguments to your /addbot command.

No. Just host your own server and do /addbots 100 or something. It's a mess. Really.

Re: Bot Army

What is cool to do with bots is, if you host a server add a bunch of bots (20 or so) then type /showpaths and then hit c, you can see all the different paths and destinations the bots have set. Pretty cool stuff.

WHAT!!!!

You have no faith in your bitfighter allies...C"MON!!!!

I can win a 1vs3 against the bots...C'mon man show me YOUR SHIP...or something... :?

Oh...well it's called teamwork folks...them ai got no brains for adapting to the envirooooment.

1vs1 I easily beat bots and usually 1vs2, but 1vs3 is a challenge.

Re: Bot Army

Actually they have a flaw, they spam their ammo like noobs. In 1vs1, just go near them and hold your shield till they are out of energy and THEN shoot them.

(edit) this actually works against spam noobs....lol

Re: Bot Army

The problem with that strategy I believe, is that when you sit with shield on and doing noting else, you are the one using up all your energy while the sbot is shooting phasers (which take virtually no power) at you. They won't use shield unless they are being shot at.

Re: Bot Army

Eh forgot how I doz itz...um move backwards and use shield sometimes and shoot a few ammo at them. They follow u like dumb dogs. The only way to beat them if you don't kite them (which is running away while shooting backwards, good common tactic for capture of the flag) is to play like them which is dodging their bullets and time use of shield or using burst. They don't know when to use their shield against burst well. Mines require too much energy, but do work.

It's funny when you shoot one burst and they are pushed away and you just shoot at them while they coming after you slowly. Bouncer could be used as a sniper weapon in this case.

Re: Bot Army

Yea, having them follow you is probably the best strategy. Their power is usually drained from shield pretty fast and they don't shoot back. DIEEEE YOOOUUUU SSS_BOOOTT

Re: Bot Army

Bouncer does have a long range, but far from being a sniper weopon, because it's easily dodged, and you know where it came from, defeating the whole purpose of snipping.

BUT, if you go to the iPointblank insparation server, and select tripple as part of your load out, it can be used as a sniper weopon. Or just go there and see for yourself.

Anyways ai aren't as intelligent as human beings so if you spray bouncers at them, it hits them.

Re: Bot Army

Bots are easy to kill in a map with a lot of open spaces, because they only shield for shots fired at them, not shots fired in their path. But a lot of maps don't have big open spaces. Sure, bots don't have a lot of strategies, but they do have one, and it's called Swarm. A cloud of bots could totally destroy a cloud of players.

Im not sure if this is a bug or not, but if you have a bot shooting your tail, and you go strait in the opposite direction, the bot will follow you, but it wont shoot you, unless you change your direction.

Kay, try five bots then.
@BlackBird Yeah I've noticed that. It's like the bots have a smaller view screen than players do, and so can't see you if you're a certain ways away.

I did 1 vs 15 s_bots and it was 18 points against 50 points bit-match (teamfight) and I won. However, the hypercam didn't work because it would show bitfighter as a single picture of a ship doing nothing in the middle of space. Someone know how to record videos within your computer?

Is xfire a good idea or skype?...idk

Team Nexus is even easier. I'd say the toughest challenges, in order, would be HTF, RET, ZC...then maybe CTF, RAB, BTB, NEX. Soccer would depend on the level and a bunch of other factors.
