Re: February Contest RESULTS

Eh...My level was not very good, because I was busy that month. Oh well, there is always next contest.

Re: February Contest RESULTS

Thanks, guys. Didn't really expect to win, as I thought my level was sort of ordinary, not really "awesome," but I guess its pretty good. Also, nice work on SunDoMe, invader alex, I thought it was very cool too.

Considering the contest in general, I was a bit disappointed at the awesomeness level, but it is a notoriously hard characteristic to capture. I think that the contest was a bit unfortunately timed, coinciding with the engineer update. Naturally everyone wanted to make engineer levels, and with no one having experience with engineer, it would have been unreasonable to expect super-high-calibre maps. I'm actually glad people are working with engineer; taking risks is the only way to improve your map-making skills. Maybe when an engineering design contest comes around we will have the experience to makes some cool engineer levels!

I will be posting my entries after this.

Re: February Contest RESULTS

Yeah, I fell victim to that. I'll probably remove engineer from funky and update construction.

In any case, congrats qui! I still think Airlock should've won, though.

Re: February Contest RESULTS

wow.

PURE, and these maps are some excellent maps. I say this for a few reasons. It seems like the map makers actively try to think of others when making maps for a contest more than they do just for fun. Such thoughts lead to innovative yet useful and interesting features inscribed in each and every map. Furthermore, having a theme inspires players to make great variations, like learning how to use and implementing a map generator, or creating an 'awesome' themed level. Weather they are in it just to win or not, players still try to make good maps. it's too bad levels like these only seem to be made mostly when there is a contest going around. Such inspiration, such effort! If only there was incentive that didn't come from a prize, but still existed. I see now that it really is only until the map contest idea fades away that I really appreciate the ability it had.

Yet still, its only flaw was that its incentive to submit maps was drawn for some by prizes, than by the true passion of making good maps.

Re: February Contest RESULTS

Very few map contest prizes have ever been claimed. It may be because map makers hold onto the idea of cashing in multiple wins for a big prize, or it could be that some people just compete because it's fun.

I haven't hosted any contests recently because of the BBB's and because the level design competition enthusiasm seemed to be waning. I might consider hosting one next month. Anyone else is welcome to host any contest they can think of, though.

Re: February Contest RESULTS

I 2 server locations, and will probably switch to a vps server again soon, so I'd be glad to host a contest server, if everyone would like to do it for fun though..
