Re: February Contest Discussion

So hopefully this competition will make people realize why engineer does, in fact, suck. Every level with engineer in this comp is decided entirely by whichever team has the most dedicated engineer. Pretty retarded.

Construction - This level is okay... I guess. Minimalizes the damage of having engineer. The base design works pretty well, exploiting engineer on the level is mildly hard.

Funky - A teamed hunters, with engineer. Bad idea on both counts. Level design is good though.

Bowling alley- Could be fun. Totally chaos though, there's nothing really to it. Its like a bitmatch in a box. Except with engineer. No real design to it... or anything else.

Belt - So... I don't even know. I don't like it. I get the concept but its not worth crossing the asteroid field to the other side. Its too small as a bitmatch, so it encourages just farming and stuff. Not enough body to it. I recommend adding more barriers.

SunDoMe - A pretty good level. Breaking through hostile forcefields to get to the other team doesn't add much though.

Race - a dungeon? Seriously? That counts as awesome?

Tech - Engineer wtf level. Why not make a big box and stick resource items all over and call it good? It would be the same.

BoxFort - Would be a marvelous level without engineer.

Pure - Works rather well. The bustin concept is done pretty well. Retrieve with team flags is still a little confusing as a concept, but it is a good level. You've got my vote.

belt - Bitmatch
Pretty fun map. A stupid fun map. The astriods are what make this map work so well. Dodging astriods while trying to zap people are quite fun.

Bowling Alley - Nexus
Meh. Barely any strategy in this map.

BoxFort - Capture the Flag
The engineer mode can be easily abused in this map. Looks nice but that does save gameplay.

Construction - Retrieve
Way too many resource items. Also usually teams aren't nice enough to start the game.

funky - Nexus
Not really fun. Also the colors for the teams are terrible.

PURE - Retrieve
Good idea but fails in execution. The fact that team can't return the flag makes the map feel really strange.

Race - Retrieve
Not awesome. Fun the first time but its gets old really quickly.

SunDoMe - Bitmatch
A slightly more normal map. Actually pretty fun with just 1 vs. 1. Though I think the turrets doesn't add anything to the map.
TECH - Capture the Flag
Actually my favorite engineer map of this contest.

Re: February Contest Discussion

I'm voting for Bowling alley just because it made me laugh like an idiot when I played it.

Other than that, I liked Pure. It's a well designed level with mildly unique gameplay. Meanwhile, I haven't come across an engineer level that can't be exploited one way or another. Unless the level creator really thinks it through carefully, engineer levels just turn into fortress building competitions. A start would be actually limiting the number of resourceitems you have...

People made the same mistake with asteroid generators at first. I don't know if people really learned their lesson there or if they'll figure engineer out, but we'll see.
