Bitfighter has an official freenode channel now!

server: irc.freenode.net
channel: #bitfighter

Come and join and chat.

We use it mostly for developer discussion right now but anyone is welcome to come and join.

Also, if you don't want to mess with an IRC client, there is a free web-based one you can use, courtesy of freenode:
http://webchat.freenode.net/

you can also access the bitfighter chat log bot by going to

www (dot) bit chat log (dot) tk

*no spaces, just keeping the bots at bay, since one was able to enter the skype room

I think he meant:

www [dot) bit chat log (dot} tk

notice the 'tk' change. It is really just a redirect to the game server server.

Doesn't work.

Doesn't work for me. Maybe all that crazy space and "(dot)" confuses people and probably was not tested to make sure it worked.

Allow me to clarify.

How would a spam bot spam the irc logs?

A spam bot could join IRC channel and spam there, and logging chat would log everything including any spam. That how a spam could appear in log files.

That link continues to fail for me. i guess you have to join IRC #bitfighter to see the correct link to chat logs.

I realize this, but links to the logs wouldn't increase the risk of it happening.

if you don't know what is IRC, it stands for internet relay chat. To connect to IRC channel, you will need IRC client, there is lots of different free clients available to download. Then use your IRC client to connect to IRC server (irc.freenode.net) and join channel.

For Mac users, take a look at Colloquy. It's free, has a lot of great features, and very easy to use.

this is what I use too

and logpage has link to chatroom. I guess its not that bad if the bots know the link. just staying as close to shore as I can.

Speak for yourself. I can't seem to find the #bitfighter channel anywhere with Colloquy. I've designated irc.freenode.net as the requested server so far, with no results or any idea of where I place #bitfighter.

Once you're connected to the server, type /j #bitfighter and hit enter

To set up a connection, click on "New" in the "Connections" window. Choose a Nickname and enter in "irc.freenode.net" in the Chat Server box. You do not put Bitfighter in here yet.

After doing that, you should be able to click on it in the "Connections" list, and click "Join Room". From there, put Bitfighter in the "Chat Room" text box, and press Join.

Let me know if you need any more help.

No, but people put stuff like emails and IM's and whatnot in the chat, not to mention join/part messages sometimes contain that information.

If you ever need to share what you consider sensitive information, just use the private message feature and send it directly to the person.

Can you guys possibly switch it to Libera? https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/05 ... -of-korea/

(I know there's currently a Discord now too, but in general I prefer FOSS solutions if possible, and I like old standards :ugeek:.)

I checked out libera chat when the split occured. I favor IRC, too, but no one has used it in years, favoring Discord, so I moved with the crowd.

Discord might not be completely open source, but it does have lots of developer tools to create things like bots and webhooks for your client, and it is FREE as well. We'd love to have you back on it!
