Master server

Anyone else getting hit with huge (999 ping) lag spikes every minute or so? Makes it kind of hard to get a game going. Happens on all servers.

Master having issues?

Re: Master server

Must be your connection problem, because Bitfighter master server can't lag players connected to servers, and I don't have any lag problem with all other Bitfighter game servers. (EDIT: however I wasn't on while you are on, so there is a possibility the master might have crashed and one hour later, automatically restarted itself)

Using wireless?
One simple solution: Use wired Ethernet connection.

Some wireless adapters (built in or USB plug in) lags every 60 seconds because of scanning for available wireless access points even while connected. I have that problem with one of my windows XP and wireless USB adaptor.

For windows XP, you can stop that wireless scanning every 60 seconds lag by going to control panel, administrative tools, services, select and stop "Wireless Zero configuration". But if you lose wireless connection you have to start it to choose a wireless to connect to.

Re: Master server

Hi bobdaduck,

Could you give a little more information on your lag problem? The master server is only used for:
1. Authentication - this only happens when you log in and is checked again every once in a while. Done for both clients and servers
2. Statistics - this transfer only occurs when a level finishes
3. High Scores - only run when selected from the main menu
4. Lobby Chat - only in game lobby
5. Arranged Connections - only used to bypass firewalled/NAT'ed game servers; this usually adds some lag since some game data is routed through the master server

None of those above except for #5 could really create game lag. The solution for #5 is to play on a server that isn't firewalled/NAT'ed - with the correct UDP port (usually 28000) open all the way to the game server.

Thanks!

Re: Master server

I might be pointing fingers at a ghost then, but still. Its never happened to me before until recently. A couple people I know experienced it also.

After messing around in my wireless settings, there's nothing there related to port 28000. Or any ports.

I'll open that and we'll see if I have any other problems.

As far as the problem description: I play normally at about 20-60 ping on all servers. After about 10 minutes of being connected, I have this lag spike where my ping goes up to 999, which can last anywhere from a few seconds to a full minute. Then it starts going off and on again and then it dies and goes to 999 for a long while. And then it disappears for ten more minutes.

Re: Master server

I have the same thing sometimes. But it is probably my problems or the dude that lives in my basement that downloads about 100gb per month.

And even then the lag would only occur during the connection phase... once you are connected to a server, the master is out of the picture.
