Ok so I have a laptop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I don't have any idea how to code at all. Can anybody help me learn to code at all? C++ or whatever. I just want to be able to code with everyone else.

Note how I don't have any of the following letters G M Q X F or Z in the above paragraph.

I too am illiterate in the programming arts, but not by choice though. So there's no need to feel alone.

If using Linux, and if building it yourself, then that is easy to compile any of your changes. Edit some .cpp or .h files in /zap folder, then run a "make". If editing .h files, then that might need a "make clean" or "make -B") to successfully compile.

As for windows, you will have to download Visual C++ 2010 (express version will work) to compile it yourself.

As for trying to learn C++, well it is kind of hard to tell you. Might be better searching for some C++ tutorials.

Actually, if you guys are interested in learning some basic coding stuff, we could work through my levelgen tutorial as a group.

Basically, anybody interested would download all the project files and we'd meet in-game at an arranged time. Everyone would work from the editor and we'd talk via F5 chat. We could go project by project as a group and check out each other's modifications by taking turns hosting. If you guys were really into it, we could even stretch it out over a few weeks and you could have levelgen "homework" for each project...time to come up with something cool and original based on each lesson.

If it went well, I could develop a similar Bot Tutorial, although that's a pretty big increase of difficulty from the basic levelgen stuff. The hardcore bitfighter development seems to be even more complicated, but you've got to start somewhere if you want to learn!

I wholeheartedly support learning LUA as an introduction to coding - scripting langauges like LUA are great because the world is hacked together with them.

They are fast to throw together and fast to run (no manual compiling beforehand.) Good idea _k!

I can do Friday, Saturday or Sunday this week if you all really want to jump on it. If you're thinking Saturday, afternoon would be better than evening.

Just for the class? Or how many people were playing bitfighter total? If just for the class, it was just FoOtloOse, Little_Apple, and I was right next to him the entire class, so technically 3 people came.

...so ironically, 3 out of 4 of the people who said they were interested, the exception being the person who started this thread.
