ok so heres my idea. what if you could give server commands from the terminal window? in addition to this what if in game chat was also displayed along with the commands that have been used in game? this would be useful for a multitude of things! of which i can not think of one. give feedback. please.
Hee-ho!
Re: external server controls
I asked Little_Apple to post this because I think it is a really good idea: to have an external interface to a dedicated server.
A really good example of one is the WebAdmin for Unreal Tournament. Basically you turn it on with an INI option, then when you start the dedicated server it starts up an admin web server as well on another port. You would then go to that in a web browser (via http://localhost:port_number) and you could alter the server settings from the displayed web pages.
This would probably be quite a bit of work for us developers...

Re: external server controls
I'm not a server owner, so take my observation with a grain of salt, but I think remote access from a webpage would be super sweet.
Re: external server controls
Fordcars,
As it stands, the only way to change server parameters while it is running is if you're in-game. This is a bit impractical for server owners.

Re: external server controls
Yes but can<t ban a person without restarting your server, or can you....
But you can<t have most server commands in the '.ini' file like change level, add bot, change player's team, change game time, change win score etc
