Changing Game Speed (For Testing Maps or Bots)

What do you think of this? Hitting + or - to change how fast or slow a game is going... Perhaps 1/4 speed thru 4x speed

It could help to quickly test bots and spawns and maps.

Also, could be funny to watch (quick entertainment if you make an interesting map). not (normally) available in multiplayer, as it would be unplayable due to lag.

Re: Changing Game Speed (For Testing Maps or Bots)

Why wouldn't it be playable in multiplayer? Just speed up ships and objects. I guess I'm not technically inclined enough to know if that would break the server, but as far as other ships go, I'd think it'd be possible to increase their speed without causing much lag. (Of course, what you do with this newfound speed could lag things up... like generating a billion asteroids at a much faster pace. But I wouldn't think just turrets shooting more pellets and ships boosting around would cause serious lag.)

I like the idea, although I can't think of many instances in which I'd need it. But other level designers have different testing methods.

I don't think adding a little will cause lag, but the devs would have allot of work to change all the timing.

FYI, when testing from the editor, you can enter the command '/pausebots'. You can then step forward frame-by-frame.

Re: Changing Game Speed (For Testing Maps or Bots)

lol 9999 frames later....

i could see this being implemented BTW if you do try speed hack (i did it client side you would get DC from over lag)

that would be helpfull maybe a

1/8x 1/4x 1/2x 1x 2 4x and 8x would work but only in LE testing.

Does this only stop onTick()?

Probably... this was implemented back before we really had events.

For the record, I have never heard of anyone using this, or finding it in any way useful. But there's still hope!
