CTF With Rocks

No turrets, but each base has a big rock that the team has to push to their side. Should be a big rock to make it difficult to transport and it'll encourage multiple players to push it at once.
Would also encourage bigger teams. I envision at least a 4vs4 match.

Sounds like soccer.

Actually it sounds more like Payload on TF2.

Soccer with two balls, I suppose.

More like this, yes.

What about a big ball instead of a big, dull rock?

How about a cart with a bomb on it that moves on a specific route but only if team mates are flying next to it, and when it reaches the enemy's base, it explodes and you win.

That sounds like a very original idea thar.

I think it would make an excellent gametype. I mean, why not copy other games? They're famous for a reason. Bitfighter will just make it more awesome.

I'm really not one for copying others' ideas, but I see that others are more liberal about borrowing from us.

Note for example, the shape of the stony objects here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Asteroi1.png

Or the juiced up versions of cores seen here:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e ... castle.png

Where will it stop?

What if it's the other way around? (I honestly don't care)
Anyways, we all copy ideas from each other.
The word "the" is copied so much.
Will it ever end? NO!
Dragons have been copied and edited so many times!
Dragons are fickle...ideas are fickle...fantasy itself is fickle.
Technically (to the extreme) we are all copycats, if you want to play the copycat accusing game.
Heck, this forum copied the idea of using smilies. ;)
Saying others copy your idea doesn't lead to anything beneficial, except emotions.
But how people copy others can be...pretty disrespectful. Like if someone just copied bitfighter 100% (break copyright laws)...it would feel as if the game and the idea itself has been stolen.

To stop crime you yourself must cease to commit crime. I hope you can follow the logic behind that sentence, if not, don't bother trying to...
Honesty; I am not smart. Political; My vast knowledge is truly breathtaking.
Contract; I, herby, declare my knowledge unarguably* vast.
*In comparison to semi-intelligent life forms.

You totally missed the point.

Re: CTF With Rocks

If everyone is a copy cat, there needs to be something original for everyone to be copying. This theory is contradictory. People copy things if they can't think of anything better.

So it has an implied expression, okay, that makes more sense. :)
Even watusimoto jokes around. :D

A paradox?
Interesting...or maybe just the never ending connections of our minds (completely meaningless statement, but artistic)?

Re: CTF With Rocks

Sometimes, copying is OK, sometimes copying is not OK. It depends on licence of the work, and the rules of the work (school often don't let you copy someone's work).

For software, GPL and Zlib (and some others) license is ok to copy freely. GPL code often need to stay as GPL as the licence says so. Note though, be careful with mixed and multiple licence, even though the software is Zlib / GPL, pictures and other game data might not.

Linux is free, have GPL in it, and can be copied to multiple computers freely. (windows and mac uses some proprietary licence that says to not copy and sell entire operating system, or that would be illegal)

Now for a possible game type.

Maybe a new game type might not be a new game type after all, we could add the ability to allow colored soccer balls that have no affect on any goals except the same goal color as the soccer color. Will that work?

Genius! What about the option of changing the weight or size of the ball, kinda like the cores?

Re: CTF With Rocks

Morals aside, I think copying in this sense is okay depending on the origin and how it's evolved. For example, someone made Capture the Flag, but nobody that I know of actively cares about other game and media projects utilizing the game mode considering how common it is. However, a mode more specific to a certain game that hasn't been replicated in very many other projects is probably a no-no.
