Bumper Item

Hey amgine here I had a idea.

I think there should be a "bumper" item basically a polygon with speed zone properties running into the polygon causes the ship or other items to rebound off the polygon pushing them away.

This could be used a number of ways such as getting away from other ships preventing people from getting Ctf flags knocking them into mines other shots ect

What do you think?

amgine.

Kind of like a bumper in pinball, right?

Yes though there qwould be a limit to the amoujnt of rebound for the obect or esle you could have issues with MAps becoming unplayable due to the fact people would never stop rebounding off of objects maybe a max rebound of 2.0 or 3.0

So basically a mix between a test item and a speed zone

I see 3 osibiltys here.

1. A object with a fixed shape that cannot be changed.

2. A polywall with a adjustable shape

3. A barrier with adjustable shape.

I prefer having 2 and 3 as customizeability would make it flexible.

If anything it wuld make for a great dungeon feature ^_^

It would be cool to mess with testitems a bit. They're fun in their neutral state but are kind of just filler to the game and I think they have more potential than that. For example, what about a 'bowling ball' testitem that had significant weight and would bounce around at a constant rate, but not be affected by ships or weapon fire? It would go where it wanted to go. :)

Or, as proposed in this thread, a 'bumper' testitem that would transfer its energy into any player it hits. A testitem careening down a corridor and slamming into a player currently has no effect, but the 'bumper' testitem would instead rocket the player away.

Finally, what about allowing players to pick up a testitem? Similar to the soccer ball pickup feature that used to exist, players could pick up test items to use as temporary shields. I could definitely see this as a method of breaching a base, in which the lead player carefully fires a testitem into a crowded base to create chaos and opportunity for another player to escape with the flag.

Option one you said wounds interesting reminds me of the removed circle item that had a very short life before being hidden by the developers. XD

Option two is my preffered choice but its not limited to being a test object shape it could be any shape.

option Three however I see Issues with if it cannot be destoryed what would stop users from just holding the test object forever and being invinicble?

Also dont forget to vote yes!

It cannot be "destroyed" but can be knocked away with a single shot. You played with the pickup soccer mode right? It's pretty fragile. I think this will work a bit better because where everyone is actively chasing a soccer ball, nobody is actively chasing you and your testitem (at least on the commander's map). You can control it all the way up until you enter a base which is a lot more convenient than trying to corral it down a corridor.

PLease take that to another thread discuss bumper test item only here.

I think a bumper item would fit right in with bitfigtyer it would have offesnive and defensive purposes.
