Poll: Soccer Modification

Currently, in the soccer game mode the ball can be picked up. Should we keep it this way (possibly making changes to the gameplay, but the concept will remain), or go back to the old version of not being able to pick up the ball?
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
I like the way soccer is now, but I also want there to be a way for new players to play "classic" soccer.
The bottom statement is false.
The top statement is true.

Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
I like it if the person making the level could pick. It seems more used the soccer pick-up though instead of the old rules.
pengu? pengu!
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
My worry with letting the level creator choose is that both versions require very different strategies and gameplay. To force the player to juggle each version doesn't seem reasonable to me.
I personally prefer the old version because it seemed less buggy. With the current version, the ball is constantly bouncing around and going through players.

Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
my perspective:
Nononononono old version is much more playable than this for obvious explainable reasons that i will not waste keyboard finger muscles stating.

Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
Carrying works great if you have 2v2 or 1v1. I think it's difficult with many more people than that, though.
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
Do NOT let editors choose between both of them.
Terrible terrible. We already have so many "is this allowed in this level?" (engineer >.<) that every server has practically completely different rules. _Ks server is standard. Sams server is mods. Some servers have other things. Nothing is the same from server to server and its all messed up.
If you're going to give editors that much power then bitfighter becomes a sandbox rather then a game, and at that point I will cease to play.

Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
Your servers are completely different because of how many parameters can be set in the level editor.

Could have simply ask _k on how they disabled soccer pickup in kserv, and kserv is probably unmodified version 015a.

There's a degree of truth to that, but I think it's mostly a result of me not using features I don't particularly care for:
Soccer Pickup
Engineer
Energy Items
Slipzones
Voting
Uploading
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
The gameplay on both servers is completely different. Like the things _k has mentioned (I don't much care for them either) that you won't find on _ks server, but which completely change the gameplay when used.

Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
I came up with an idea, make soccer cannot be picked up, and allow level makers to use flags instead of soccer balls in soccer game type, in which flags can be picked up and dropped allowing the use of weapons and modules while holding flag, and scored in goals with same scoring system as soccer balls. Do you think that will work?
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
i think the point of soccer was essentially to make a game-type that takes a break from the use of flags.
Just turn ball pickup off completely, and it will be fine. It was a failed experiment, so lets move on, not keep it and let people choose if they want to move on or not.

Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
I actually thought the BBB soccer game last night was a lot of fun.
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
yeah, and was ball pickup turned off?
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
It was turned off...but I was just generally excited by the most fun game of soccer I've played in a long time.
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
exactly my point, no ball carrying is better, in my opinion
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
to find out what the community thinks.
But I'm definitely frustrated with the third option. Bitfighter is becoming a sandbox instead of a game and that ticks me off.

Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
I think we're already way past sandbox...
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
I think it should be on or off. Turning it off and admitting the experiment failed is not to say we shouldn't try other experiments. I still want to find other options that do enhance Soccer.
Re: Poll: Soccer Modification
Pickup has been turned off, ball weight has been increased experimentally.
