Hello, I was wondering if you are planning create more sophisticated server's statistics. For example, graph showing amount of players for certain time back would be great. It's becouse of time shift that I can not find time when someone is playing. And this would be easy way for me to find out when there are most players logged into game.
Also I miss information about how offten is this statistics refreshed.

Do you want statistics for your server, or someone else's?

Since he's interested in finding when the games are happening, I think he's interested in some kind of toggle/tab/second page to the Master Server screen where he could see when the peak activity has happened in the past day/week/whatever for each server.

Not entirely sure how to bring that off, but an interesting idea.

It could be for servers all together. Currently it don't discern on which server are people playing and it's fine. Frankly I don't care about individual servers. I just wanna know that in Saturday at 4 am (my timezone :)) there was 8 players (even if divided for group of 2 each playing on diffrent server).

Well, I'm open to adding such a feature, if we can figure out exactly what we want to track and display.

In the meantime, I ran a quick and dirty analysis of the master log file (which has an entry for almost every time someone fires up the game) and made the following table, representing data collected from Dec. 2009 through the present. I'm not positive about the time zone; I think it is US EDT, but it might possibly be GMT, though the pattern seems to fit players firing up the game after school and in the evening, so it's probably EDT.

Hope this helps!

Connections | Hour starting at: (00 == midnight, Eastern US time)
770 00 (represents midnight - 1:00AM)
733 01
813 02
725 03
730 04
570 05
374 06
428 07
512 08
676 09
865 10
1154 11
1606 12
1709 13
1875 14
1409 15
1545 16
1727 17
1652 18
1491 19
1749 20
1416 21
1177 22
994 23

PS What time zone are you in?

PPS Here is the command I used to generate this table, posted here mainly for my future reference:
  Code:
cat bitfighter_master.log |grep Client\ connected\ with |cut -d\] -f1|cut -d\  -f3 |cut -d: -f1 |sort |uniq -c

It's usefull, thanks. Is it really that much ? I don't know what is in those columns. I suppose it is time (used only hour) in first and nickname or ip in second.
I thought there would be couple of players, but it seem to be hundreds or even thousands. I don't know why everybody connect just for few minutes and left before second map starts :(

No, you misunderstand... those are cumulative players in each time block since the log file was last reset. We're not getting thousands (or even hundreds) of players at any time... sadly.

...so there have been 1749 total connections established between 8:00-9:00 pm EST since this past December.

About 5 months/150 days/A broad average of 10 a day between 8:00-9:00pm...Likely inflated by the same people checking repeatedly and people testing levels in the editor.

No, it's not that bad... once you start Bitfighter, you establish a connection to the master server and a log entry is created. Checking servers via the join menu, editing a level, testing a level, hosting a game, etc. do not generate further logged events unless you quit and restart the program.

Could stats be done for each day/hour for the last say 2 months for a total of 24 x 7 = 168 slots?

This is to help the scheduling of the massive game in the announcment forum..
