Can you tell me?

Can you tell me how to convert a map code into a .level file?
For the life of me, I can't figure it out. :(

Re: Can you tell me?

Open a basic text editor.

Paste the level code into a new document.

Save the file with a .level extension.

Done.

(if for some reason your text editor saves the file as filename.level.txt, go back and remove the extra extension.)

Re: Can you tell me?

As a last resort, you can always create a new level in the editor and copy/paste code over.

Re: Can you tell me?

Whenever I Copy and paste a blank txt file, it turns into a level file, but when i put it into the level directory and try to host a game, it has an error and shuts down bitfighter.

Re: Can you tell me?

By default, all level files in the levels folder are loaded when you host. I don't know what happens when you try to host a "blank file", but probably nothing good.

Re: Can you tell me?

Can you open your copypasta level in the editor? You might be accidentally leaving out part of the header...if you want, you can upload a copy of one of your crashy levels for us to take a look at.

Re: Can you tell me?

No, I mean that I copy the level code ONTO the blank txt file and then save it as a level file, sorry for misleading you. :?
Here is one of my "crashy" levels.

Re: Can you tell me?

I downloaded the level and opened it in my text editor and found it to have line numbers and tabs, looking like this:
1. GameType 3 15
2. LevelName Hepatitis
3. LevelDescription
4. LevelCredits
I then set about removing the line numbers, got bored, and deleted most of the code, leaving the header lines, a spawn, and a couple of barriers. I loaded this up in Bitfighter no problem.

Maybe the text editor you are using automatically assumes the level to be code and formats it for you.

Re: Can you tell me?

Or maybe you've copied level code with line numbers...that would cause a crash.

Re: Can you tell me?

No matter how I highlight them, I can't get help copying the numbers too, and once I copy the code into notepad, I can't highlight the numbers without highlighting the code too. :(

Re: Can you tell me?

When I copy code in firefox, I get "# " (instead of "1. ", "2. ", "3. "...) at the start of every line. Then I just do a simple replace to delete them all automatically.

Re: Can you tell me?

Without getting too far into it, different browsers copy the code differently. Some include the numbers, some (bizarrely) replace them with "#".

Some editors allow you to select rectangular blocks of text; using TextPad, for example, lets me get rid of the numbers in about 2 seconds.

Not necessary...I already went back and fixed them all.
