Either these are just rebels without a cause, or I'm not understanding what the SOPA is.

SOPA is the Stop Online Piracy Act. It would give the federal government the power to block any IP address that hosted allegedly illegal copyrighted material at the national level.
Someone posts a youtube video without asking permission to use a popular song in the background? The government can shut down youtube. The bigger concern is the possibility of having legitimate websites that are sources of news and dissent shut down for bogus intellectual property violations.

So is Wikipedia to protest against, or for the SOPA?

my vps hosting company redstonehost all the way in paris is having their homepage blackout for this act too.
nonetheless, as all history timelines go to show, a law that is bad will be voted down by others, or will eventually become so ridiculous in situations it will be destroyed/obliterated in flames later on.

So if what your saying is true, then this SOPA is unconstitutional. It also gives the government another way to control us.

And if Congress does what congress always has in recent years, the creators of the bill will edit it until it gets passed. Then gradually over the years they add onto it it by bit as needed to result in the original effect.
Still, knrl them. I want to see this bill beaten around like every single terrorist that John McClane has laid a beat down on. I want to see this bill SUFFER

Now I find google appears to go against SOPA / PIPA, as their home page is a big black cover up over the "Google", linked to here:

Looks like Wikipedia put a blackout by only adding JavaScript code on nearly all pages, but I can disable JavaScript on my web browser making any JavaScript useless, and I can see any page on Wikipedia.

If this bill were to be passed, would that mean bitfighter.org could be taken down because we "technically" don't own the rights to the game?

Having the president sign this is like him signing a declaration of war against the entire Internet.

No. Bitfighter is based on the public Zap! Demo code and we're working within the license that was issued with it.

However, if someone posts a video of their uncle singing lady gaga in the shower, then we'd be responsible for that and THEN we'd be in trouble.
