European Server?

Hiho - I recently found this game and had lots of fun playing with bots locally. But when I tried to join an internet game, I found that all servers seem to be in Amarica, which gives me and some mates I invited a ping of 200-400 - which is fun but not really playable.

So I wanted to ask, are there more Europeans here, is someone interested in and able to host a Server over here?

I have at least one guy beside of me who'd happily join the fun if we had a server with reasonable ping for us :) Now I'm not expecting someone of you to pay the cost just for some people over the pond, but maybe there are some european players which already have the possibilities and just aren't using them or whatever - That's why I'm asking :D

I'll also try to get a internet-specialist-friend I have into this game, his connection would be fast enough, but I still wanted to ask here.

Between: The game is simply a pleasure - everything works instantly, hosting is easy, dedicated server starts at moments notice, the community is great (from my lurking on the forum :) ) and The Gameplay just rocks - I especially like retrive - gives a lot of strategical depth in my opinion.

PS:
If you're asking yourself why I'm not hosting myself if everything works so well: I'd love to, but my connection is freaking slow, so when a guy from my town joins the server, he has a ping of 200 (we tried it). I don't even want to know what happens if 5 people joined...

CrazyLinuxNerd lives in England. You could ask him to host a dedicated server. Or you could set one up for yourself!

Re: European Server?

Our main developer is actually based in Luxembourg for the time being. For a while, he hosted a European server (I want to say it was in the Netherlands), but it didn't get used much. He still really liked the idea, though. I think the only reason there isn't a euro-server right now is that he wasn't sure if there was any demand.

Anyway - I bet we can get something up on your side of the pond without too much trouble. Stay tuned.

Re: European Server?

The server I hosted was based in Frankfurt, and, as K said, not many people used it. We now have several at least occasional players in Europe, so hopefully there would at least occasionally be enough for a good game.

We've tried several solutions to dedicated servers, and the best solution seems to be a VPS. The cheapest plans seem sufficient (http://www.lowendbox.com/ always has some kind of deal), and there are full instructions for setting up a server on one of these in the wiki.

The ultimate solution, however, is to have someone else do the hosting :-), so thanks to Zoomber for offering! I'd suggest putting something in the server name to suggest Europe or Germany (if that's where it is).

And moon1ght, thanks for your kind words about the game. I know all the devs like to read them.

Hopefully CrazyLinuxNerd will read this, I wouldn't like bothering someone with PMs straight away.
Yes, I can set one up from my Computer, but my connection is too slow to host properly, as mentioned, so it's of no use except for 1on1 at most (and even then my mate had 120 ping).

Now this sound great - if you can do it, I'd be more than happy^^

I'm trying to get some demand^^ Already got two people (me not counted), and potentially there could be more, who'd play at least casually, if there was a useable server.
A mate hosted today with a 6 mbit/s connection (should be 6 times stronger than mine :) ) , which was actually playable for the two of us, even if somewhat unstable. But a permanent dedicated server would be great.

Waiting full of expectation - This is allmost like Christmas :D

Edit: Looks like you did it - A server with reasonable ping appeared, which seems to be in Ireland. Thanks a lot, I'll try to get it crowded.

Edit 2 ( a day later): It disappeared again :(

Re: European Server?

ok, my apologies about the server. We got it up and running, but the hardware is experiencing some issues at the moment, and not sure when I'll get it up. hopefully within a day or two, I'll see what I can do.

Where is this page? I searched a little and couldn't find any instructions specific to a setting up servers on a VPS.
