Music shuffling

I put about 20 songs in /bitfighter/music, but every time I open bitfighter, it plays the same song, and then keeps going in alphabetical order. It need to have some sort of shuffle or random option to keep the same songs from getting stale.

I think this should go to the bitfighter features section and I agree with you.

Re: Music shuffling

It's just a more "general" or vague section than bitfighter feature section.

Re: Music shuffling

Wow! Someone is using the music feature of bitfighter???

Music shuffling probably would not be hard to add; however, the jury is still out on exactly how/where to add music to the game.

It could be that we just add it to the menus. Shuffle wouldn't be needed if this were the case. If we added it to the game itself, then we may need more music player features, like shuffle, repeat, etc. However, if this was the case, why not just use a normal desktop music player in the background anyways?

Thoughts?

I'm not partial to any particular idea yet.

Because, with a third-party music player, you would have to keep going to the desktop to do anything. But if it were integrated into bitfighter, you could just use a command, like /m next or even have a music menu. It is a huge time sink to go to the desktop to change songs during a BBB, where every second counts.

And the reason I want music for bitfighter in the first place is that it helps me concentrate. I play a lot better with music than without.

As it turns out, _k came up with quite a few options for bitfigter music in this thread: http://bitfighter.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=369&p=5173&hilit=soundtrack+ideas#p5173

P.S. Huzzah! 250th post!

Re: Music shuffling

Cracatoa is right, although you can do a lot with an external music player like iTunes or Grooveshark if you want to tweak with your playlist at all you'll have to exit the game. I think a simple music menu would be neat!

Re: Music shuffling

I'm surprise no one posted using a I-Pod or anything like that. :D
Music is one of the most important, basic features in games. Without it, the gamers' ears are bored.

If anybody's interested, here's the audio file I created as main menu music. It's meant to be looped, so you can just drop it into your music folder and it will sound the way it should when it repeats.
