018 on Windows and user data changes
018 for Windows has introduced some changes to where your user data is stored and how it is loaded. This data is where your level files, scripts, etc. are.
Older than 018
Your user data was stored in 'My Documents/Bitfighter'
018 and later
Your user data is now stored in '%appdata%'. This is a folder that you can access from the 'Start -> Run...' dialog; type in '%appdata%' to go directly there. You can also see on the Diagnostics screen (F7) where Bitfighter is loading files from.
What this means
When you install Bitfighter 018, it tries to see if the old user data directory exists. If it does, it moves it to '%appdata%'
Now bitfighter has the following advantages:
- Multiple users on the system can each have their own user data
- User data can be upgraded more easily now
- If you run Bitfighter on the command line now, it can automatically find your user data
Advanced start-up information
Bitfighter now installs *all* resources to the installation directory (usually 'Program Files' or 'Program Files (x86)'. Upon start-up it does the following:
- Check if it's a standalone installation (by looking for the bitfighter.ini in the same directory as the EXE)
- If not standalone, look for user data at %appdata%, load it if found
- If user data not found, copy game resources to %appdata%
- Run!
