Every day

In a small pocket dimension, there exists a universe. The universe isn't an empty one, but rather one populated by numerous beings. The beings lived fairly mundane lives, and their world was devoid of meaning.

Then, they began fighting. There was no point to the fighting, but there didn't need to be. It was something to do. It went on like this for years. Empty fighting, in a realm they called "Foo!"

Then, they were discovered, by beings from our universe. It was a marvelous breakthrough. We began telling them what to do, and they complied. We gave them the meaning and direction that they had been lacking. In return, they provided us amusement, and gave us something to care for. Much like a pet, or a garden.

And then, we started building. Small things at first, but slowly the structures became more complex. We gave the beings houses, arenas, places to explore, and we saw it, that it was good.

One day, a discovery was made, a discovery that would change everything forever. It was an object. Now, this universe had objects already, but not like this. No, this was an object of beauty, of power. A symbol of strength and prestige. Immediately, A virtue was introduced to what was before a somewhat innocent universe: Envy.

The ships already fought pretty much all the time though, so it really didn't make that much of a difference. But there was something they were fighting for. An objective, if you will. Anyone who possessed the symbol was an immediate target. We, seeing this, were intrigued. We figured out how to create more of these items, and released them into the world.

The beings were not satisfied. They fought even harder, to collect as many as they could. The fighting continued, despite the universe at this point having tons of litter everywhere and everyone had way more of the stuff than they needed.

We were displeased. We removed the objects from them. There was outcry and rebellion. We didn't know what to do. So we gave them a place to put such objects, and gave them only one. And there was peace.

But peace can never last. A new object was discovered, one that moved when touched. This too, frenzied the residents. Everyone wanted to try pushing the object, shooting it, trying to break it. This too, they fought over. It reminded us of children, playing a sport from our world. So we gave them a place to put this "ball", and divided them into teams. The populace was unruly as ever, but given time they began to understand.

Curious, we gave them two flags and again divided them into teams. It worked better than we had hoped, and they began to grow, and change, and develop.

We gave them things to fight over, things to destroy.

We gave them places to bring the flags to, places to take the flags from.

We gave them purpose.

And there was peace, in a sort of competitive, violent, capitalistic sort of way.

We amused ourselves creating places for them to play our games, never realizing the consequences of our actions.

The government became corrupt. "GarageGames", as they had taken to calling themselves, began selling them to us for amusement, under the title "Zap!". It was slavery.

Soon, it became evident that they would not be able to continue with their greedy practice. They sold the universe, and its residents, to another government. China. Or Instant Action. One or the other. Instant Action had a dream, a vision for the universe. They wouldn't sell it, per se, but rather would try to make money from advertisements and cheap hot dogs. Deciding that the universe was not lively enough, Chi- er, Instant Action, began "sprucing up" the place, decorating it and cheapening it. Instant China called this Circus "Z.A.P." hoping that a fancy acronym and glowy effects would intrigue the "hip" generation. It almost worked.

Just kidding, it sucked and nobody played it. And the universe was lost to the world, and the inhabitants once again in the dark...

Then, a lone human discovered this universe, on his own. The inhabitants were poor, and starving, and the fun had gone out of their games. They were in a primal, and desolate state. The man had compassion on the beings, and took them under his wing. With his constant nurture the beings began to thrive. Other humans joined him. Some left, others stayed.

Occasionally, strife and contest still graced the universe, but it was no longer tainted by greed. Rather, it was a celebration of culture. The man proclaimed the universe's name to be "Bitfighter." The residents were dubbed "Bitfighter Ships". I call them Bips.

Then, there was a dark time. Many of the humans had left, and the Bips were lonely. The man again had compassion on the Bips. He created copies of the Bips, that would play and fight on their own. These "Bot Ships", or "Bops" would play with the Bips, and the Bips and Bops were able to function without humans. Eventually, humans returned, and the dark time passed.

The man stayed with the Bips though, through it all never wavering. And now, a new element has been introduced into the Bitfighter universe, and thus dawned the age of the levelgens. A renaissance of creativity and freedom, the Bips and Bops no longer fought. They are happy again.

But remember, they've been through a lot. They deserve better than fighting.

Have compassion on a Bip: Play levelgen carnival.
