FPS drop with 3+ bots

I don't get it. My internet connection is just fine, FPS remains at 60, my computer is a bit beast with 6GB ram, A6 Vision CPU and 1GB graphics card. Yet when I add like 40+ bots, it drops to 10 FPS somehow, same with 3 bots, it drops to 30 FPS. Anybody know a reason?

Are you hosting locally, or playing on a remote server?

Re: FPS drop with 3+ bots

My first guess is lack of oomph in your cpu. That may be a simplistic answer, but is consistent with the data.

Running bots is more taxing than not running bots.

Re: FPS drop with 3+ bots

Can you please post the exact processor model that you run? Also, is Windows 8 64bit or 32bit?

Thanks

Re: FPS drop with 3+ bots

OK, that's faster than my CPU and I can run about 50 bots before it starts to stutter.

It may be Windows 8? fordcars, you have a win8 box, can you add lots of bots and see when it slows down?

What? I don't remember that :? But no, I don't have a low FPS when I add lots of bots :/

Re: FPS drop with 3+ bots

I have Windows 8 as well. I can add basically as many bots as I want. I haven't yet reached a limit.

Which kind of makes me want to /addbots until my game crashes just to see what I can do!

Re: FPS drop with 3+ bots

One problem with bitfighter is no multi-threading when hosting. When server part of hosting slows down, client part also slows down.

You may get better framerate by joining any server, you can run and join your dedicated server with multiple cores in CPU. That way the server won't slow down client's frame rate.

Do I change the CPUs run in Bitfighter in the .ini file?

Oooooooh, but running dedicated would, right?

No -- you do it by running two instances of Bitfighter. One is a dedicated server, the other is your normal client.

I assume you know how to start a dedicated server; if not, read this: http://bitfighter.org/wiki/index.php/Hosting_a_game.
