Logging in?

Could we make an OPTION to log in when you open bitfighter ?
If we did we could have bitfighter send a log of all the kills/points that person makes to the site for a list of how good a player is. It would be nice to know how you compare to the other players. If you add more competition, it will encourage players to get better and practice more.

Zap! had a high scores list/hall of fame/stats. There's been talk about making another one, since all the data is readily available. What hasn't been decided is how it would be organized or exactly how it would function. Now that the forums and master server are hosted from the same machine, it may be possible to use forum login information in association with the game itself. If this is possible, we would also have the foundation for a high scores list/hall of fame/stats.

The reality of how a ranking system would work is a complicated thing, though, if you want it to be anywhere near accurate. The old system had Kill/Death as a ratio and team Win/Loss as a ratio. The ratios were ranked in two separate lists, and there were a few other qualifiers like the number of registered players in the game, whether the server logged statistics, and the minimum number of games a player had to participate in to get ranked.

I hope we can get it up and running by the next release, or the one after that.
