Bitfighter Music?

This topic has been talked loads of times.
So i have this idea:
At the BitFighter Folder (where levels are saved normally located at "My Documents") there will be a Folder that says Music, or w/e.
You can put in some Mp3, WMA, etc etc,... and in BitFighter you press an assigned key (F1 - F-12) and it will bring up the music menu.
Select your song.
Done!

Thanks! its just an idea wich you can edit anything you want
Thanks for Reading!

Re: BitFighter Music?

Music playback has been implemented for the next release. So far it:

1. Plays OGG Vorbis or PCM files (other formats not used because of patent issues)
2. Looks for a 'music' directory and loops through all the songs it finds
3. Pauses/Resumes music if you put the music volume down to zero

However, we do not have any more interface than volume control nor do we have any dedicated bitfighter tracks yet.

Re: BitFighter Music?

Ogg and vorbis will be a problem, as some users do not have the kind of software or machines (lots of mac users) who cannot create ogg music files.

better to see if theres something more universal, or find a converter for them..

yet, can still use itunes...

Re: BitFighter Music?

PCM is implemented with WAV/AIFF, so these would be really large files are not suited for much other than small sound effects and audio editing

The issue is not being unable to implement formats because of technical difficulties - it is because of legal gray-area. It would be super easy to add mp3/aac/yourfavoritecodec, but I played it safe.

Ogg vorbis is still pretty common because it is safe and more and more games/systems are using it since it is royalty-free - even big name games.

I might be able to add dynamic loading of patent encumbered formats (e.g. mp3), but you'd have to supply the decoding libraries yourself - we couldn't distribute them. In other words, I could write the hook-in code, but you would be responsible for having the mp3 library on your system somewhere.

On a side note, does anyone know if modules are encumbered?:

Re: BitFighter Music?

We will very likely be distributing some music with the next release... but remember that BF will never be as good a music player as just about anything else out there. Nor should it be.

But... if you have a line onto any good, appropriately licensed music you'd like us to consider for the future, feel free to post.

I made these things out of pure silliness in 5 minutes if you want them, but I can try making or finding some more cared for tracks

Re: BitFighter Music?

I could see something like the second one working while in the initial menus, especially if it looped, but I'm not sure how it would segue to the livelier music I hope to have for in the game.

Re: BitFighter Music?

How about we have a vote about which of the 8bc tracks to include?

P.S. Here is a free mp3-ogg converter http://download.cnet.com/Free-MP3-WMA-OGG-Converter/3000-2140_4-10793572.html

P.P.S. I'm back!

I'm gonna link to a pack of the tracks I've included in BitfighterVideo clips when the time comes, but I don't really care what gets distributed with the game.

Any music we include has to be appropriately licensed.

Re: BitFighter Music?

MAY CONTAIN GRAMMAR ERRORS
*sigh* I never talked on what music we use, make another thread of it :? .
My idea was like:
In the My Doccuments folder (or your data director folder) Had a Music folder there... (like the Levels and Bots folders) and you press an assigned key, and a menu shows up, It will Scan the Music name, Length and Artist, Like this:

Name: "Bitfighter Sample 1"
Artist: "Bitfighter"
Length of song: 0:00

Yes, you can select any song with the arrow keys, but may take some time to load the songs at the start, also, you can select the Folder directly from the options menu, and put what folder to use (this is ussefull for those who dont want to spend their tiime on copying the music from "My Music" all to BF folder) Like "My Music" or w/e...

Any ideas :?:
Thanks! :D

go for it! i uploaded it with a C.C. license

it does sound nice for UI menu music, while the 8 bit collective stuff is really good in game music.

just remember, i only spent 5 minutes on it! i wont be sad or disheartened at all if you don't like it. infact, i welcome criticism for my fast food like fast-music production.

Re: BitFighter Music?

and maybe an option for level default music (in the Level Paramaters. you would connect and it would say
"Connnecting to [IP ADRESS] (F10 cancels)"
"Receving File: Songname.ogg") and you could use your own hand-picked selection, or OFF.
if you're reading this, i'm sorry for how cringe my old posts are. i rarely play BF anymore, but if you ever want to find me, you can catch me on steam, or on discord @ muddy#7969

Meh, i meant like via the map... you assign your own map song in the editor, and if you want to listen to it you can but you can pick your own or just turn it OFF completeley...

If only you could include this awesome song!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggyC0FOzqHM

or this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUhVGIecbK8
(I was listening to that when I made one of my levels.. You'll never guess which one!)

Sadly, you can't. But if you are looking for music, I suggest you start your search here:

Enjoy! :-)

Here's some that _k found. Throw those in your music folder and you should get some variety.

Many ideas being implemented now are just recycling of something that was suggested at an earlier date. Nobody is receiving any credit in-game or elsewhere so I don't know why that was necessary or mature.
