Who would buy one of those just to play one game?
The bottom statement is false.
The top statement is true.

Re: Bitfighter Mobile control ideas

That controller appears to be non USB, and only works in a few mobile devices, and a few games. So that controller will be hard to find on stores.

Better go with USB controllers which can work on many computers and devices, with many games including Bitfighter.

As with any mobile stuff, here is the steps the developers need to do.

1. Get some mobile devices.
2. Get compiler that can compile for mobile devices.
3. Make programming changes to get mobile to compile.
4. Test the game on mobile, including online part.
5. Include better control ideas.
6. Test controls.

Most Bitfighter developers have not done any steps yet. Developers don't need any mobile control ideas yet, until the developers are close to getting the mobile part done.

Need I say anymore?

I think if the developers are going to spend time, effort, and money to develop a mobile port it should be able to be played by anyone and everyone, not restricted to those who paid $50 for a controller.

Besides the price, requiring a controller also presents mobility problems. The idea of a mobile bitfighter to me is something I can whip out and instantly begin playing, without having to lug around a controller. Furthermore, you'd have to put two hands on the controller, so where would your device go? In your lap? At that point I'd begin to question why I'm not just waiting until I get home to play.

It's a creative idea, but I honestly believe requiring any kind of controller, gamepad, or external device that must be bought would be severely limiting the mobile audience.

The idea of just porting the level editor to mobile has been brought up in the past. Since this is an ideas thread, might we have a discussion about that?

- Ever had a great idea for a level while on the go? I sure have. I see structures, buildings, cars, maps, and I get inspiration. Wouldn't it be awesome to whip out your device and start developing a level right there on the spot?

- When you get home, infrastructure would be in place that would allow you to transfer your mobile level to your computer.

- Focusing first on porting the level editor would allow us to "test the water" with a mobile port. In other words, see if spending time on the mobile front is really worth it before we take on the huge challenge of porting the entire game over.

Ideas for controls:

- Tap with one finger to create a wall endpoint. Tap elsewhere to continue the wall. When finished, tap as though you are creating another endpoint but hold for several seconds. The wall is finished.

- Put two fingers together and drag around to view the level as you normally would with WASD. Pinch or open to zoom in or out.

- Shake for undo/redo, just like you can shake for undoing/redoing text.

- A thin bar would be visible on the side of the screen. Tap it to reveal the toolbar. From there you may drag on items like normal. At the top of the toolbar there would be some kind of menu icon. Tapping on it would take you back to the level editor menu, in which you could change parameters and the like.

I see a bluetooth dual analogue controller as the only reasonable way to execute this across multiple mobile platforms. Even on a larger tablet screen, I suspect it would be physically too difficult or uncomfortable to access all the controls and play an enjoyable game with touch controls.

You absolutely need: one analogue control to move, one analogue control to aim/fire (or similar), and at least one module button.

You probably want: a second module button, a weapon cycling button, a loadout change button, a flag/item drop button.

You can probably scrap: accessing command view, the scoreboard, global/team/quick/voice chat.

Providing for needs sounds possible, but would still result in lousy touchscreen gameplay. Including wants begins to introduce more problems with being able to comfortably and competently play the game.

i feel like requiring BOTH a controller and an iPod defeats the purpose of "mobile" control ideas.

Re: Bitfighter Mobile control ideas

Gaming on mobile devices is best when the buttons and screen is together, built in, not separate using a cord or wireless, like a laptop keyboard, or a Game Boy buttons. Computer (laptop or desktop) is best as it can do many things.

A separate game controller to plug in is best for desktop computer, and some video game consoles that plugs into TV, which is not meant to be mobile.

There is more then enough ideas for mobile control ideas, but the developers haven't hardly got anywhere into programming Bitfighter to mobile, yet.

Re: Bitfighter Mobile control ideas

zoomber and sam nailed it for me. Lugging around a controller is only reasonable if you already have it with you, like you're going on vacation or something. But in only very rare circumstances would I purposely bring it with me somewhere, which defeats the value of mobile bitfighter -- bringing a mobile device anywhere and playing anywhere with no set-up.

Just to make a few things clear, I view the phisical gamepads as an extra for those with fat fingers. I'm not saying that phisical gamepads should be the one and only way to control the game.

This is kind of why I closed the last mobile control thread. I think this is a conversation that turns circular pretty quickly.

Besides Blackbird, I rarely see you on bitfigher anyways. Why do you want something that will let you play 24/7?

Re: Bitfighter Mobile control ideas

What about the DSi/3DS as free software? bottom screen could be play area and you tap-to-shoot, using the + or circle pad to move. L and R could be modules, Y could be weapon cycle, X could be voice chat (all DS's have built in mics) A could be Quick Chat, and B could be Loaudout. Start would be pause (duh) and Select could be drop item.
if you're reading this, i'm sorry for how cringe my old posts are. i rarely play BF anymore, but if you ever want to find me, you can catch me on steam, or on discord @ muddy#7969

Think about it. When playing an fps, racing, or some rpg on your phone, where would you usually play it? In what position do I play it in? All of these questions are relivent.

People should use tools for what they are purposely made to do. People use phones to call people and not to play a rpg/fps game ten hours straight. Ask your parents about that one?

People like to sit on their behinds like lazy buns and play games like they're addicted to it; not moving around, while looking at a small screen and pressing small buttons to play a silly game.

Re: Bitfighter Mobile control ideas

You have to hold the controller with two hands...the small screen has to be resting vertically upward while being close to your eyes, since the screen is so small. You the one kid I ever heard of that wants to play a fps game on a phone with a console-like controller. Even without the controller, it's ridiculous and sad. Wouldn't it be easier to have a conversation with someone in public?

Console cannot mix with mobile...at least not yet.

Is this appropriate...take out the last four words please it's unnecessary. You're an admin for bitfighter sake.

Its fine by me if you lock it. My original intent in posting this was to show off the controler.

This thread existed in another incarnation, the father thread, if you will. I locked that one because it ceased to be productive. I was referencing the fact that I was prepared to lock this one for similar reasons, while trying to keep that explanation somewhat lighthearted and less aggressive. However, I can see that you have neither bothered to follow our ongoing discussion, nor appreciate the effort involved in trying to keep the conversation light. As a result, I will extend my continued offer of a forum ban if you can't keep your attitude in check.
