00:14:07raptorsam686: did you find any other bugs last night?
00:15:59sam686resource\robots, it appears many of robots are broken, it is: projectileshooter, orbitbot, astrobot, retrievebot, gameobject.lua (looks like a robot)
00:16:18raptorbroken how?
00:16:36sam686it might have been broken for a long time now, even before 014
00:16:53raptorah ok - i don't think we've touched much of the LUA stuff since 016
00:17:26sam686eliza, and my s_bot still works
00:17:43raptors_bot is the important one..
00:18:24sam686http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/bitfighter/robots/ i have made a few robots too, and took quickbotvs that works (that is my list that is working robots)
00:19:42raptorwhat was your change to quickbot?
00:20:23sam686i don't know if i changed anything at all, but rather copied from quickbot, and name it s_bot to add my changes
00:21:01raptorsorry, i meant the different quickbotv2
00:21:07raptordid you make it 'v2'?
00:22:17sam686quickbotv2 was in the bitfighter forum (probably is still there)
00:22:21raptorah ok
00:22:41sam686http://bitfighter.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=186&p=1138#p1138 theres the original quickbot
00:25:45raptoroh neat, Unknown made it
00:26:43sam686s_bot is very similar to quickbotV2, but edited to work in all game types
00:26:56raptoris it faster?
00:27:17raptoror maybe we made the game all-around faster since Unknown's post
00:27:33sam686not sure, haven't tested that (i wasn't thinking about speed, i was trying to make it work on all game types)
00:27:58raptorwell, i think the most important thing we with bots is to reduce RAM usage
00:29:41raptordinner time! b e back..
00:30:10sam686even my "clone" bot (/addbots 50 clone 0 sam686) uses way too much memory, up to 50 MB
00:42:02raptoryeah - there's a trick to using only one LUA instance somehow

00:59:46raptorwhat OS do you run?
01:00:05bobdaduckwindows.
01:00:14raptorrats
01:00:18raptorok, thanks
01:00:27raptor(I'm looking for a Mac tester for 017)
01:01:16bobdaduckI have a C++ class... I feel like I should get back into code monkey-ing bitfighter.
01:01:22bobdaduckBut I've been busy and stuff.
01:01:25bobdaduck*shrug*
01:01:32raptormonkey away!
01:02:05raptorthere's three of us already on bitfighter - if we get 997 more, maybe we can come up with shakespeare
01:03:17bobdaducklolwut?
01:03:39raptoran obscure reference
01:03:42raptorsorry..
01:04:10bobdaduckNO ONE IS ON BITFIGHTER YOU LIEEEEDDDD
01:04:12bobdaduckxD
01:04:30raptoryeah - it seems like everyone disappeared starting with _k
01:04:56raptori mean, *i'm* in the high scores list... just by testing in 017 games
01:05:03bobdaduckxD
01:05:33bobdaduckI've been really busy with highschool. Senior year... college applications and end of term and online classes to boot.
01:05:51raptorah a senior... yes you would be very busy
01:06:11bobdaduckI'll probably come back to playing bitfighter eventually... But it'll be a bit.
01:06:15raptori skipped my senior year and went to college instead
01:06:23raptornot because i was smart, mind you
01:06:28bobdaducklol
01:06:38raptorbut because i was smart enough to know that high school couldn't teach me anything else
01:06:42raptor:)
01:06:47bobdaducklol
01:06:51bobdaduckyeah, I get that.
01:07:06bobdaduckIt hasn't taught me much to begin with because I grew up on the internet so I already know everything.
01:07:16bobdaduckBut I'm really feeling it my senior year xD
01:08:26bobdaduckI've actually missed most of the college deadlines for summer semester.
01:08:29bobdaduckBit retarded...
01:08:38raptorsad :(
01:08:42raptori had those deadlines
01:08:45raptor*hate
01:09:11bobdaduckLike, I knew they were coming so I actually stopped procrastinating and tried to do things for them
01:09:17raptorin fact, i probably have to register for a class soon...
01:09:32bobdaduckbut I had/have absolutely no idea where to start, and no one would help me so I just sort of gave up xD
01:09:39FlynnnNT Quit (Quit: This computer has gone to sleep)
01:09:52raptoryeah, that's the worst - when you have no idea what you're doing
01:10:00bobdaduckAND NO ONE WOULD HELP ME.
01:10:12raptorblech
01:10:15bobdaduckAsked my parents "yo, come help with this application!" And they're like "nahhhh we're busy"
01:10:22raptorwhat!?
01:10:27bobdaducklolyeah.
01:12:56bobdaduckI almost started back into the bf code a week or so ago
01:13:11bobdaduckbut then got some retarded errors that I was too lazy to fix when I tried to compile.
01:13:41raptorhehe
01:22:36bobdaduck Quit (Quit: Page closed)
01:26:52sam686in a past few weeks, instead of me making a game of my own, i ended up making a 3D software renderer (drawing pixels without opengl)
01:27:00sam686http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/upload/software_render.PNG
01:27:01sam686http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/upload/hardware_render.PNG
01:27:49sam686i have mostly written my software renderer (hardware render use opengl),, and my software render can push at about 15 FPS, at 1024 x 768
01:28:02sam686and thats is on my slow pentium 4 computer
01:28:27sam686mostly, thanks to CPU having ability to do SMID (single instruction multiple data)
01:28:56raptordid you do this for a class?
01:29:20sam686mostly no, but was insterested on 3D rendering
01:32:12raptorwow neat
01:39:59sam686so far I only used SDL and optional opengl on my program ( i can deside to not use opengl if I want) so i haven't used no GPL licence (well maybe except 1.x, but SDL 2.0 is zlib license)
01:40:14sam686i haven't desided what to use for audio, though
01:40:29raptoropenal is far more versatile than sdl_mixer
01:40:40raptorbut sdl_mixer may be simpler..
01:41:31sam686i think openal-soft use gpl licence, but maybe there is openal that is non-gpl?
01:42:05raptoryes
01:42:20raptorthere is a windows-only professional version
01:42:30raptorthat has hardware decoding
01:43:17sam686or maybe i could later take a look at sdl_mixer... after all i haven't coded any audio at all yet..
01:45:40sam686ok, .. back to bitfighter, for now.. see if there any bugs left on 017
01:47:10sam686one good part is, i haven't seen not a single blank name in score board in 017, since after i think i fixed that problem...
01:50:33raptoryes
01:53:43sam686http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/upload/too_many_giant_points_list_nexus.png That might be a problem...

02:01:56sam686i don't know, c++ <math> doesn't include integer version of sqrt

03:23:38zoomber_mbptrying to get a gift card of mine onto paypal. what a pain
03:23:49raptoryuk
03:24:11zoomber_mbpit seems my gift card doesn't supply a street address, so verification doesn't work and the card gets rejected
03:24:29zoomber_mbpI've spent like 2 hours trying to find a way around this
03:24:38raptordon't use paypal?
03:24:56zoomber_mbpWell, that's good until the purchase i need to make exceeds the amount i have on the card, and gets declined
03:25:40raptori know many places allow for payment in multiple forms
03:26:03zoomber_mbpits probably going to go to supporting my minecraft server
03:26:04raptorand pieces
03:26:28zoomber_mbpcome to think of it, i don't even think I play minecraft for its intended purpose
03:26:36raptorhehe
03:26:40raptoris it still popular?
03:26:44zoomber_mbpeverything I deal with on it now..is politics. all of it is politics. politics politics politics
03:26:56zoomber_mbpoh yeah, the game is still being bought
03:27:01raptorif you're not careful, you'll get grey hairs like me
03:27:03zoomber_mbpmaybe it passed its peak

03:27:14zoomber_mbpwww.factioninarms.com
03:27:21zoomber_mbpif you dare
03:29:16raptori have decided that i will not get into minecraft
03:30:22zoomber_mbpits fun, if you know how to control the amount of time you play on it
03:30:36sam686my computer is kind of too slow for mind craft (i kind of tried it and i get a lot of slowdown and freezing, and that is only the offline mode)
03:30:39zoomber_mbpotherwise, its a life-mess
03:31:16zoomber_mbpsam, its written in java, probably means you need to either upgrade computer or save up for a new one
03:31:22zoomber_mbpits resource intensive
03:31:27raptoryeah - uses loads of RAM
03:31:35zoomber_mbpbest to try it in worst possible graphics / modes, lowest quality
03:31:40zoomber_mbpif that doesn't work, forget it
03:31:47zoomber_mbpraptor, even the servers!
03:31:59raptorespecially the servers, i imagine
03:32:18zoomber_mbpVPS servers sell minecraft managed servers, for about 30 dollars a month if you want a decent 2GB ~30-40 player server
03:32:28raptorwow
03:32:28zoomber_mbpVps companies*, i should say
03:32:48zoomber_mbpI'm thinking of going with this independent VPS company, that will give me 3 GB at 16 dollars / month
03:32:52raptormaybe people should start using this instead: http://c55.me/minetest/
03:33:08raptorbuilt in c++
03:33:14raptorbut nowhere near as mature
03:33:42zoomber_mbplook up minicraft, you can get it on your touch screen not iPad thingy
03:33:58zoomber_mbpi remember you were messing with a few weeks ago
03:34:07sam686"It will be kept lightweight enough to run on fairly old hardware." that is kind of enough for me to give "minetest" a try
03:34:14raptorhaha
03:34:30raptoroh yeah that - it was some archos
03:34:43raptorit has become an audio kiosk in the kitchen
03:34:54raptorgood productive use :]
03:35:06zoomber_mbpyou can get mini craft on that, it was produced by the makers of mien craft, seems to run well on any tablet
03:38:08sam686oh, and my wireless connection have greatly improved by moving my old dd-wrt linksys router to my apartment (and connecting to it instead)
03:42:17zoomber_mbpreally?
03:42:23zoomber_mbpoh right, back to 20 mbps right?
03:42:26sam686minetest doesn't seem very much fun at all after trying it..
03:42:38zoomber_mbpwhat sucks, is you have a very good internet connection, while i have a very powerful computer, too bad we can't combine those
03:42:42raptoryeah - it's a sandbox construction game
03:43:14sam686kind of 15 MBps (limited by wireless G speeds at longer distance, but I have 5 Mbps upload
03:43:44zoomber_mbpright, but i wire my connections for faster speed
03:43:59sam686but, more importantly, i almost never get disconnected from my dd-wrt linksys rout er
03:44:38sam686the other one is cable modem / router combo, it disconnects me (on wireless) many times a day
03:45:27raptormy dd-wrt router still dies a couple times a week
03:45:31raptorit bugs me
03:45:36raptorand we have a fiber connection
03:45:53raptorbut we are in high-density residential
03:46:17sam686my dd-wrt almost never dies, it had an uptime of over 60 days when it was on my other house (till i moved)
03:46:30raptorreally??
03:46:32raptorwhat model?
03:46:44raptormine is wrt54g v8.0
03:46:52raptorlow RAM
03:47:07sam686WRT54Gv8
03:47:11sam686thats mine, too
03:47:29raptorand the wireless stays up ok?
03:47:38raptordid you have to change any settings?

03:51:45raptorah ha!
03:51:46sam686and the new "Maximum Ports" setting might not take affect until router reboot..
03:51:49raptori have 4096

04:07:36raptori hope so
04:07:45raptordid you try with various settings?
04:07:53raptorand found 512 to be optimal?
04:08:24zoomber_mbpraptor, id be honored if you added a converter bot here, like something where you can type ".c 1 kilometer in miles" , etc
04:08:42raptor??
04:09:02zoomber_mbpby the way, you guys think you can complain, for the longest time, i had an old 2 wire router/modem
04:09:22zoomber_mbpso your connection was dropped at least 3 times per day
04:09:32zoomber_mbpmore if you used heavy wireless connection
04:09:58raptorwow, that's worse than mine for sure
04:10:23zoomber_mbpi ditched it for a belkin router, and discovered i could just use my time capsule instead
04:10:29sam686my connection often drops weather or not if i don't do anything online , it just disconnect and reconnects, and is annoying
04:10:45sam686oh, and i haven't told you the other cable/rotuer/wireless combo
04:10:46zoomber_mbpso well, now that i hate wasting stuff, I'm using BOTH a belkin router and a time capsule
04:10:47raptorsam686: what do you have for tcp and udp timeouts?
04:12:18sam686the cable modem is Ambit broadband (ubee) docsis 2.0 wireless, but the wireless is bugging me with ramdom disconnect (fixed with my dd-wrt wireless router, but still need modem)
04:13:00sam686tcp timeout 300, UDP timeout 60
04:13:15sam686timeouts take affect immediately without needing a reboot
04:13:41raptorwhat dd-wrt build?
04:13:50sam686there is many more timeouts then just TCP / UDP
04:13:58sam686Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) micro
04:14:17raptorah ok
04:15:26sam686on the administrator, commands, i enter and "save startup" this: http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/upload/text1203/120326_23-03-02.txt
04:16:03sam686i was reading part of this while entering the numbers. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Router_Slowdown
04:16:41raptorexcellent!
04:16:48raptori was wondering how to speed up the closing of connections
04:18:04sam686to view current connections, "Status", "Router", at the botton, you can watch or click on underlined number
04:18:28sam686keep in mind just viewing dd-wrt router web pages counts as a few connections..

04:24:56raptori keep saying that..
04:26:51raptorgood night
04:28:23sam686there is status -> WAN, that monitors traffic, but takes up memory in NVRAM (there is enough room to hold about 25 months of traffic data), but you can backup and erase traffic data to free some NVRAM (i read http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/VPN_(the_easy_way)_v24%2B#Enough_NVRAM_storage_space.3F )
04:29:22raptori'll loook into it tomorrow

16:32:33watusimotomostly simple from here on out
16:32:36watusimotogreat
16:32:37raptorok
16:33:04watusimotoone thing -- do we want to mark players who are spawn delayed on the scoreboard?
16:33:12watusimotoi.e. so you know not to look for your teammate
16:33:13raptoryes, i think so
16:33:16watusimotook
16:33:24raptorbecause sometimes i wonder where people disappear to...
16:33:34raptorblech, ended in a preposition
16:33:37watusimotocan probably get that done quickly using the same mechanism we use for busy chatting or somesuch
16:34:22watusimotothere's a couple of other things I want ot get done as well, but I could probably be convinced to let them slide until after the release
16:35:28watusimotothere's a case in the google buglist someone added with a suggestion for the help screen
16:36:06raptorah yes
16:36:14raptorfor the scoreboard marks
16:36:22raptorwould we need another page?
16:36:50watusimotoyes, I think so
16:37:06watusimotoprobably inserted just before the /commands
16:37:23watusimotoalso, how should we display delayed players?

16:59:47raptor?
16:59:51raptorit doesn't look used
17:09:16BFLogBot - Commit 5eea57eeb663 | Author: buckyballreaction | Log: Reduce magic in UIInstructions by creating an enum with named pages
17:09:52Watusimoto_why not?
17:10:03raptori dunno
17:10:08Watusimoto_reviisting old code, eh?
17:10:17raptorjust cleaning compiler warnings :)
17:10:30Watusimoto_kill it
17:12:23raptorso leaderboard behavior is slightly different, i noticed
17:12:41raptorit does the top two now, even if you're not one of them
17:12:44raptorwas that intentional?
17:14:15raptorthe original idea was to always have your score there

17:39:01Watusimoto_the way you had it was correct

19:43:01raptorI added a help page for scoreboard marks - you may want to make color changes/ minor revisions...
19:43:51Watusimotogreat
19:44:20Watusimotoyou fixed the scoreboard issue, right?
19:44:29raptorcorrect, that too :)
19:44:34Watusimotogood
19:45:02WatusimotoI just need to finish getting the delayed marks to the client and I should be able to check everything in
19:45:27Watusimotois there room on your new help screen to show info about the two badges we have to date?
19:45:50FlynnnNT Quit (Quit: This computer has gone to sleep)
19:46:11Watusimotoalso, we need to disable the test badges on the f7 page -- was thinking we could use sam686's trick of checking if we are in debug mode to do that in the release without removing the code
19:46:12raptorpage: http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/upload/111screenshot_4.png
19:46:28raptorok, i can do that quickly
19:46:32Watusimotowhat about the dev badge?
19:46:57Watusimotoand we at least need a placeholder for the faded player names
19:47:06Watusimoto(or however we will display them)
19:47:25Watusimotoalso... the @ should be larger, I think
19:47:48Watusimotobut I think that page looks good overall
19:47:55Watusimoto14 pages of help?!?
19:48:04Watusimotowe should publish an e-book!
19:48:09raptorhaha
19:48:29WatusimotoAnd we should probably describe what underlined names mean
19:48:48Watusimoto"Underlined players are certified genuine" or somesuch
19:49:25raptorok
19:49:42raptorthe '@' is the same ratio as on the normal scoreboard
19:49:50Watusimotois it?
19:49:54raptoryep
19:49:58WatusimotoI thought I bumped it up
19:50:04Watusimotoand made it bigger than that
19:50:07Watusimoto(a while ago)
19:50:09raptorjust that one?
19:50:18Watusimotoor was it even smaller than that originally?
19:50:28Watusimotoyes
19:50:30raptorit was smaller
19:50:38Watusimotowow
19:50:48Watusimotook, well, then that's that
19:51:06raptorsee here: http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/upload/111screenshot_5.png
19:53:40sam686oh, and should we do anything about overloading the screen with nexus "10 points "messages? http://sam686.maxhushahn.com/upload/too_many_giant_points_list_nexus.png
19:54:08sam686it kind of covers and hides top half of the screen

19:56:31Watusimotoa thousand bots returning flags at once?
19:56:32sam686me, testing 017 with robots
19:56:48Watusimotolots of bots?
19:56:54sam686mostly, only me was returning lots of flags, one at a time
19:57:16Watusimotoyou must admit, it's a pretty contrived situation
19:57:17Watusimotohowever
19:57:32Watusimotowe could limit the number of messages, or perhaps spread them out more
19:57:51sam686maybe, don't display giant messages unless it is more then 100 points, maybe
19:57:59Watusimotothere's a hardcoded delay if two messages are generated at once; we could generalize it
19:58:06Watusimotothat's an idea
19:58:16Watusimoto100 = how many flags?
19:58:21Watusimoto4?
19:58:36Watusimoto1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10
19:58:37sam686yes
19:58:46Watusimotoyes, sure, that might be good
19:59:01Watusimotosave it for specialish occasions

20:52:03Little_Appledee dood eeeee
20:55:47WatusimotoLittle_Apple: to help you understand why devs always ask what happened when something crashes is because the only effective way to find and fix a bug is to be able to reproduce it on one of our machines. If we can reproduce it we can see why it's crashing (usually) and test any purported fixes. "Freezing randomly" usually means "unfixable problem".
