00:00:04Watusimotoand instanitating a wallItem via Lua creates issues
00:00:36Watusimotobecause wallItem isn;t really a game item at all... so its parent gets instantitated (a LineItem), so that gets added to the game
00:00:44Watusimotoand that's not at all what you want
00:01:11Watusimotoso, I think, somehow, WallItem needs to become a full fledged BfObject, and we need to get rid of BarrierItem
00:01:29Watusimotoand this is what I need a clearer head to think about
00:01:35Watusimotois this reasonable to do for 018
00:01:48Watusimotoor is there a stopgap that we can use
00:02:19raptoruhhh
00:02:31Watusimotoso, I don't know how much of that makes sense, but I need to look at it again tomorrow
00:02:35raptormaybe not supporting walls for now is the reasonable answer
00:02:39Watusimotomaybe
00:02:49Watusimotothough those are perhaps the most critical items in some sense
00:02:57raptorbecause... last time we touched the walls it set off a whole host of problems
00:03:01Watusimotobut yes, it's an option I am open to
00:03:33Watusimotomaybe we use the older mechanisms for walls for 018, and delve in for 019
00:03:55Watusimotoanyway, I want to look into this tomorrow
00:04:00Watusimotowith a clear head
00:04:07raptorok
00:04:14raptoruntil tomorrow!
00:04:31Watusimotooh, and I fixed that f'n flat tire again on my son's bike
00:04:38Watusimotoa new puncture in a new location
00:04:42Watusimotobut I fixed it
00:04:46raptorfrom the environment?
00:04:50Watusimotoand the tire is flat again.
00:04:54Watusimoto!@#$%^&*(
00:05:01raptordid you add the extra rubber?
00:05:11Watusimotono, I just patched the old tube again
00:05:18Watusimotobecause it was a small hole in a new location
00:05:20raptori've gone with two layers of extra rubber sometimes..
00:05:38WatusimotoI don;t think he even rode it since it last went flat
00:05:51WatusimotoI hate that bicycle
00:06:19Watusimoto5 flats in what... 24 hours?
00:06:25Watusimotois that insane?
00:06:46raptorthat's a little much... but not unheard of :)
00:06:55Watusimotoit's a little much
00:07:00raptor(I used to be a bike mechanic)
00:07:05Watusimotoah well
00:07:19WatusimotoI went over the entire interior of the tire... nothing sharp there at all
00:07:38raptormaybe you have a mean neighbor kid
00:07:48WatusimotoI'm really hoping that I just overestimated how much air I put int he tire after the last fix
00:08:01Watusimotomaybe, but the tire has been in our apartment since the last fix
00:08:05Watusimotomaybe a mean brother?
00:08:09Watusimotoor wife?
00:08:54Watusimotowell, a mystery
00:08:58Watusimotoanyway...
00:09:14Watusimotoi hope to get some wall resolution tomorrow
00:09:34Watusimotogood night, everyone!

16:14:31raptorgood morning
16:56:45watusimotohey there
16:57:11raptorlooks like it's Monday-morning-forum-response day
17:02:09watusimotoyup
17:02:14watusimotoprocrastination day
17:31:27watusimotoso I may have a solution to the wall problem
17:31:39watusimotothat will not involve getting into all the wall complexity that sank us before
17:31:40raptoroh yeah?
17:31:43watusimotoyes
17:31:45raptoroh goodie
17:31:49watusimototwo ideas, actually
17:33:04watusimotothe better one is to make WallItems into the main object, that is shared between client and server; when the wall is added to the database, it will use the current functionality. The only real difference is instead of haveing the server send the client BarrierItems, it will send WallItems, and teh client will convert those to barrierItems
17:33:29watusimotoso WallItem becomes the main wall object, and lua can interact with it without strife
17:34:07watusimotoright now wallitems are used to create a simplified thing called a wallRec, which in turn generates a series of BarrierItems, which are 2 pt wall segments
17:34:24watusimotowe'd still do that, just after transmission, rather than before
17:34:49watusimotoI *think* that will solve the main issue, but not positive
17:35:37watusimotoanyway, I've drawn a line with myself... if I have to start changing anything related to our intersection code, I'm going to withdraw
17:35:57watusimotobut I need to investigate further if this is feasible
17:41:09watusimotowell, heading home... more on this later

18:38:27raptorWatusimoto: I'm thinking about getting a domain (again), but I want to be able to use e-mail with it. What set up do you have with bitfighter.org? Namecheap, right? (how does that work with the e-mail?)
18:39:39WatusimotoDomain registrar is namecheap
18:40:01raptorsomething for my family...
18:40:04WatusimotoI *think* I forward all the email through my email provider (fastmail.fm)
18:40:12Watusimotoand let that do the forwarding
18:40:20Watusimotobut i'll check
18:40:28raptoris that a paid provider, as well?
18:40:31Watusimotoyes
18:40:45WatusimotoI have the top tier personal plan
18:40:53Watusimotoand it has been reliable for... years
18:43:16Watusimotosorry, I was wrong
18:43:29WatusimotoI just set up some forwarding addresses directly at namecheap
18:43:52Watusimotostuff for me gets forwarded to fastmail, and that's where I pick it up
18:44:15raptorwhere do you do that set-up ?
18:44:33Watusimotoah, fastmail.fm FINALLY updated their home page
18:44:46Watusimotodo you have a namecheap account?
18:44:54raptornot quite
18:45:08Watusimotomanage domains > modify domain > email forwarding setup
18:45:26Watusimotohttps://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/471/2/demo-how-to-set-up-email-forwarding
18:46:21Watusimotowow... their whole ui is different
18:46:38raptorthe top-tier e-mail service is $120 a year
18:46:47raptorfor fastmail
18:46:56Watusimotoreally?
18:47:03WatusimotoI don't pay that
18:47:39Watusimotohttps://www.fastmail.fm/signup/family.html
18:47:41WatusimotoI have superior
18:47:43WatusimotoI think
18:47:46raptorI'm debating whether or not i want to run my own e-mail server...
18:47:51raptorlooks very messy
18:47:58Watusimotoyou don't
18:48:11WatusimotoI did for a while, and spam killing ebcame a fulltime hobby
18:48:21Watusimotohad to give it up when I started bitfighter :-)
18:48:43raptori'm more concerned with other servers declining to send my messages becuase of an un-approved server..
18:48:51WatusimotoI have addresses for my kids and wife
18:49:15Watusimotowell, I would never consider that
18:49:29Watusimotoif I didn't want to spend the $40, I'd go with google
18:49:34raptorhmmm, ok
18:49:52raptoryeah, i think i'd rather spend time on other pursuits than managing an e-mail server..
18:50:26Watusimotoexactly
18:51:02WatusimotoI've been happy with fastmail, gmail is free, there may be other good solutions out there.
18:51:10raptorok, i'll think about it for a bit.. thanks!
18:51:27raptorlooking ofr a good solution where my e-mails aren't indexed for advertising
18:51:29WatusimotoI haven't deleted a message for years, and still have plenty of headroom on my account
18:51:36raptorso trying to get off of google...
18:52:01raptorthe whole idea being: i wish to be responsible for my own data
18:52:15raptorbrb..
18:54:06Watusimotoactually, I think I have "enahnced"
18:54:07Watusimotohttps://www.fastmail.fm/signup/personal.html
18:56:00Watusimotoyup, confirmed. enhanced
19:10:19raptorhmmm ok
19:14:01raptorwell, i guess my first step is to get a domain anyways..

21:29:06WatusimotoI think I have another evening of flat tire fixing ahead of me...
21:29:21raptor:(
21:29:28raptorslime?
21:31:52raptorby that i mean, add slime to the tube
21:38:03raptorand the extra rubber 'shell' i suggested - and counsel to not ride in contruction areas, etc... :)
22:06:32raptoryou should read Wuzzy's rant on the generic joystick configuration...
22:13:16raptori'm not sure how to respond yet...
22:27:40Watusimotooh man
22:27:47Watusimototire changed
22:28:32WatusimotoI could find no leak in the old tube, but sacraficed it anyway
22:28:49raptorwe used to have tire changing contests - 3min was my best (I think)
22:28:55raptoras moutnain bike tour guides
22:28:58WatusimotoI split it around the middle and stuffed it up into the tire to act as a barrier against any intrusions
22:29:06Watusimotothis tire is a royal pain
22:29:16Watusimotowel'll see ... 5 mins and it isn;t flat yet
22:29:24raptoryay!
22:29:34Watusimotook, I need to go to bed. I'll look at the rant first
22:34:49Watusimotoresponded.
22:34:53Watusimotohope it's ok
22:35:38raptorprobably
22:35:50raptorok, i've got to go... hope the tire stays inflated
22:35:56Watusimotome too thanks
