13:29:34Watusimotohi raptor
13:29:44raptorHELLO1
13:29:46raptoroops
13:29:48raptorHello!
13:29:51Watusimotodo you have the url of the page where we were listing broken things on the site?
13:30:04Watusimotoour stuff all got picked up today, so the house is a bit empty
13:30:05raptorwhy yes i do: https://beta.etherpad.org/bflostcode
13:30:13raptorbut... it has been erased
13:30:31WatusimotoI had a tab opened for that page, but my son shut down the broswer, and it was gone
13:30:35Watusimotohmmm
13:30:36raptori know the wiki was on it
13:30:43Watusimotook
13:30:51raptorI finished off most of the items
13:31:00Watusimotowell, I feel that we should get the "we've been hacked" sign down soon... it's been a while
13:31:10raptori think we need to do at least these:
13:31:12Watusimotoso I thought I might start working on the site itself
13:31:16raptor1. wiki integration
13:31:36raptor2. MOTD notice integration on forums (other pages?)
13:31:47raptor3. MOTD integration with twitter
13:31:58Watusimotowiki -- looks like we have content, but not styles; is that what you meant by integration?
13:32:03raptoryes
13:32:30Watusimotook, I can probably work on that; I did it once...
13:32:32raptor4. Downloads page need to have the fancy Linux distro icons/etc. on it again
13:32:44Watusimotobtw, I found a full site backup from 2009... probably not of any use
13:32:49raptorthat's all i can think of right now
13:33:04raptorwe already have a full back up from 2011, i think under /root
13:33:09Watusimotoyes
13:33:24Watusimotowell, I know it was useless, but I thought I'd mention it
13:33:32raptorpleiades is as good as can be restored
13:33:57Watusimotowell, it looks good :-)
13:34:37Watusimotoso my two high priority projects are: get wall working in game; get wiki styles working
13:35:02Watusimotothat first one is the last major refactor issue I am aware of
13:35:11Watusimotothough I am sure there are more
13:35:23raptorok
13:36:02raptorafter my week (or so) off, i've forgotten much of what i was doing. I remember 3 projects though:
13:36:15raptor1. bot rewrite
13:36:24raptor2. import old forums levels into pleiades
13:36:41raptor3. INI settings consolidation and simplification
13:36:59WatusimotoI saw your ini fiasco comment last night
13:37:02raptor#3 has been impeding my ability to fix bugs...
13:37:03raptoryeah
13:37:20Watusimotothe issue there is that we have the old and new ways of doing ini stuff?
13:37:25raptoryes
13:37:35raptormore like old and new and new new and new new new ways
13:37:35Watusimotoand you want it all to be just the new way
13:37:51Watusimotoyeah, there may be an older one in there too :-)
13:37:55raptori want one way
13:38:02Watusimotoabsolutely
13:38:05raptorwhatever we choose is best
13:38:15raptorand i want to understand it and do it and do it fully
13:38:29WatusimotoI prefer the new way, as it uses a lot less boilerplate
13:38:38raptoryes, i think so too
13:38:40Watusimotoand the keys can be enums
13:39:22Watusimotoit really is mostly a cut-and-paste job... a bit tedious, not requiring much thought
13:40:33Watusimotodo you know what needs to be done? or is it that you want someone else to do it?
13:40:40Watusimoto(no judgement there, just asking)
13:41:33raptorI'm totally willing to do it - i'm usually good at being thorough with these kinds of tasks
13:41:48raptorI just don't completely understand how it's supposed to be hooked up
13:41:48Watusimotook
13:41:53Watusimotohere's what we can do
13:42:21WatusimotoI also want it done, but I haven't been motivated to do it. I can probably re-figure out what to do, as I sort of remember
13:42:39Watusimotowhat I can do is transform a single setting, and check that in as a solo commit
13:42:52raptorit's been a week since I looked in-depth and i don't remember the specific issues i had
13:42:56raptorok, yes
13:43:00raptorthat would be great
13:43:03Watusimotoand then you can see from that what I did, and maybe that will clarify things
13:43:07raptorthen I can see your vision :)
13:43:24WatusimotoIf you can't, then there's a problem...
13:43:41Watusimotook, that will be my third high priority task
13:44:07Watusimotothat might also be a good opportunity for you to provide any feedback on the new system in general if there is something that concerns you
13:44:20Watusimotoit would be easier to fine-tune now than later, I think
13:44:47raptoryes
13:48:35Watusimotowe have a small apartment, and just shipped out 37 boxes of stuff, and it still feels full
13:49:50Watusimotoit's hard to fight the biological urge to accumulate stuff, but I am conviced that less stuff is better
13:50:14Watusimoto(to a point, obviously)
13:51:14raptoroh yes
13:51:31raptorthere is an honest-to-goodness hoarder in my wife's family
13:51:51raptorso I am quite familiar with accumulation of 'stuff'
13:52:33raptorit's so bad, in fact, that storage fees for the extra stuff that this person has is equivalent to their mortgage
13:52:52Watusimotothat's a different level altogether, but does, I think, show the urge to accumulate in hyperdrive
13:53:15Watusimotofunny how people become hoarders, but rarely go the opposite way
13:53:31raptori guess i missed a thought - stuff will fill the available space given to it
13:53:39Watusimotomy wife worked for a charity cleaning out the houses of hoarders
13:53:50Watusimotoyes, it will
13:54:18WatusimotoI want to build myself a very small, highly energy efficient house
13:54:41raptori've wanted to go the other way... but usually my methods (just in my head!) involve gasoline
13:54:52Watusimotoyes, of course
13:54:55Watusimoto:-)
13:55:12Watusimotowho doesn't want to build a big house and fill it with gasoline?
13:55:35Watusimotowhen the apocolypse comes... you'll be the man. the gas man!
13:55:50raptorhahaha
13:57:06Watusimotolooks like dinner's here... sent the kids out for food
13:57:08raptoractually, i think there are even federal laws that prohibit the use or allow the forcible confiscation of stored gasoline
13:57:23Watusimotoif there aren't, there should be... that stuff is dangerous
13:57:25Watusimotolater
13:57:28raptorlater!

19:04:27BFLogBot Commit: c0732069fc | Author: watusimoto | Message: Covert another setting -- for this one we need to (well, want to, really) change the way the setting is stored. It was 0 or 1, and we'll convert it to Yes or No. Ideally, we'd provide an upgrade path, but in this case, the setting is so trivial that it seems ok to simply lose the setting during upgrade for 50% of our users.
