13:14:57raptorgood day!
13:15:15raptormy computers have been resurrected after the distro-upgrade fiascos
13:16:14raptorin other news... i can't seem to get the debian build to work...
13:16:30raptorput i put up other distro pages on our downloads page
13:27:43Nothing_Muchuh oh..
13:27:57Nothing_Muchmageia?
13:28:03Nothing_Muchdang
13:28:11Nothing_Muchmaybe try Ubuntu 12.04, raptor?
13:28:58raptorit doesn't have to do with the distro - it's a build system problem. something that kaen added to make bitfighter more debian compatible is conflicting with my hacky build system
13:29:16raptorand i don't know enough about debian building to make it work (yet)
13:29:53Nothing_Muchraptor: what about Debian? is it the packages themselves or something more internal like development stuff?
13:30:16LordDVG has joined
13:30:31raptorit's an issue with the debian build system, not the distro...
13:42:31Nothing_Muchoh..
13:42:38Nothing_Muchyou mean like an older version of GCC?
13:43:09Nothing_Muchhmm..
13:43:10Nothing_Muchoh
13:43:18Nothing_Muchwait, did Kaen update some things?
13:43:20raptorno no
13:43:27Nothing_Muchif so, then you might need to try out Debian Jessie
13:43:33Nothing_Muchwhich is currently "testing"
13:44:05raptorthe build system is the manner in which debian-type packages are built - using technologies like quilt and debhelper
13:44:10Nothing_Muchright now, atm, Debian Stable won't receive any new packages, ever, unless they're backported, but those are for purely security updates
13:44:15raptorit has nothing to do with the distro or with specific compiler
13:44:44Nothing_Muchwell.. I would suggest trying out Jessie and see if that one works
13:45:02raptori've tried multiple versions
13:45:04Nothing_Muchsince.. you know, Stable is incredibly outdated, using Mesa version 8.0.4 when we're at version 10.5 now
13:45:10Nothing_Mucheven Testing?
13:45:12Nothing_Muchdarn
13:45:14raptorit's not a distro problem
13:45:21raptornot testing, no - that one is not available to me
13:45:41raptorremember that I build using the openSUSE build service which emulates a debian distro for building
13:45:48Nothing_Muchhmm..
13:46:24Nothing_Muchwell, try out Jessie, since Debian does update it more frequently and is more up to date, and it *could* resolve the technology-specific.. things
13:46:26Nothing_Muchhttps://www.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/
13:46:56raptori'm not about to install an entire distro to build this - I do not know enough about building debian packages yet
13:47:19raptorwhich is why i've been using the openSUSE build service - it helps hide some of the nastiness of it all :)
13:47:25Nothing_Muchohh
13:47:39Nothing_Muchdoes the openSUSE service have the "testing" packages available?
13:47:49Nothing_Mucherm.. thing? sorry if I don't understand
13:48:05raptori'm not sure, but I doubt it - it only builds for released distros
13:49:32Nothing_Muchdarn
13:49:50Nothing_Muchwell, lemme see what instructions I can find and I'll try it out on Debian Testing on VBox.

17:22:23watusimotobuilding really shouldn't be this much of a chore
17:23:02watusimotobut it always is (and I'm not just talking about Bitfighter here... it's everything)
17:30:26raptoroh hello
17:30:46watusimotohi
17:31:31watusimotohey, did you submit bf 019d to betanews.com?
17:31:48raptoryeah, debian is the epitomy of draconian policies
17:31:51watusimotobecause I didn't, but they picked it up pretty quickly
17:31:52watusimotohttp://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Bitfighter_for-Windows/1303879080/1
17:31:56raptorno, i did not submit it anywhere
17:32:13watusimotoI was just curious if they are crawling our site, or if we should add them to the release checklist
17:32:38raptoroh wow... are we famous?
17:32:55watusimotoI'm not sure being on betanews counts as fame
17:33:31raptoryou'll have to forgive me - i'm a bit out of sorts right now. our 3rd born kept us up until 5:30am
17:33:42raptorso i may not be entirely coherent
17:34:32fordcars has joined
17:34:38watusimotowe need to add gamejolt to the checklist
17:34:58raptori think it was there.. before the crash
17:35:08watusimotoah, could be
17:35:17raptoralso - i need to write down how to make the Linux portable build
17:35:27raptorit is easier now, but still requires a bit of set-up
17:35:50fordcarsWhoa, 015, that is old
17:36:01watusimotoI'll add it
17:36:35raptori'm liking our download page...
17:36:41raptorit's all spiffy
17:36:56watusimotoYes, it looks very nice
17:37:34watusimotoyes, very nice

17:55:33raptorspiffy!
17:55:40raptorI don't know what to do about debian
17:55:46raptormaybe I should install a virtual machine
17:56:08raptori'm not feeling up to the fight at the moment
18:09:07watusimotoso it just won't build?
18:10:10raptorI can get the build environment all set up, but then it fails with some weird error - i suspect it is because of debian-specific files kaen set up in our 'debian' sub-dir
18:10:51watusimotoDo we really need debian-specific files?
18:11:03watusimotoit seems dubious
18:11:25watusimotoI would suggest that, when you are ready, you try removing those and seeing if the standard build process will work
18:11:29raptorprobably not - but I imagine kaen set them up to prove we're almost debian compatible
18:13:14raptoryes, that is my next idea - i'm going to gut the 'debian' directory except for the .png and .desktop file
18:13:37watusimotoThe less non-standard stuff we have, the better
18:13:49watusimotoespecialy if we don't know what it is :-)
18:16:32raptorok, here goes with a modified source tarball...

20:15:44raptorit built! but i don' tknow if it works
20:15:58raptorNothing_Much: would you like to be a beta tester for the debian 7 package?: http://sam6.25u.com/upload/bitfighter_019d_amd64.deb
20:17:59watusimotoit just needed the proper motivation
20:21:56raptori couldn't use the 'make install' that cmake generated and had to manually place the game files
