Bitfighter coming back to life!

Some of you may have noticed that bitfighter.org has been MIA for some time now. Our host was taken down by a hacker, and all backups were lost. We are slowly rebuilding everything, and over the coming days you will notice more and more of the site returning to normal.

Some data was lost (a months worth of forums postings, for example, and recent game statistics), and we will be asking you help rebuild Pleiades, which was totally wiped out.

If you registered recently, you may find you need to re-register.

In future, we will have a completely independent off-site backup so if this event recurs, we can restore normality a little more quickly and painlessly than this time.

And a lesson to all of you... back your data up! It can happen to you, and, sometime, probably will!

Ouch. Might raptor have the all the pleiades levels from when he scraped the forum levels and we were gonna build a new and improved pleiades server?

As a suggestion a button to download all pleiades levels might not be a bad idea, to put them in the hands of users. You can never have too many backups

There may be a few things I like you to do:
1. If your avatar is broken, re-upload your avatar will fix that.
2. Check to see if all your forum attachments in posts can be downloaded, you might need to edit and re-upload those to fix file not found error. We have a phpbb database backup that is a few weeks ago, but only a file backup of older then 6 months ago.

For those that like to upload levels to "sam test" server, nothing is lost there, as long as the levels are titled. I probably still have BBB11 levels on my home server because that is where part of BBB11 was hosted. I might soon put BBB11 levels up for downloads.

I have all the levels from the forums, and several from pleiades used in various BBBs. But I'm sure I'm missing at least 3/4 of them... unless someone else has been downloading them somewhere.

The biggest issue I see is possible conflicting database IDs.

Most Forum attachments after Feb 8 2013 are probably lost, I only did an old forum files backup at that time. Check your downloads, If you still have files downloaded from forum attachments created after Feb 8 2013, you can send the file to us and we can recover uploaded attachments to make it downloadable again.

Avatars uploaded after Jan 13 2012 is lost, but this is not much of a problem as you can simply re-upload your avatars.

I think raptor have found levels from database export up to June 3, 2014. Conflicting Database ID? Make new database ID start at 500.

An easy way to determine if you have broken attachments is to do an advanced search by author (input your username), sort by titles and display as topics, and look for threads with a little paperclip icon. I found a handful of broken attachment threads that way!

UPDATE: The level database is back!

Thanks to kaen, sam686, and a fortunate file-dump of all the levels from 6 June 2014, I was able to get in all the level/levelgen data with the proper IDs and authors.

Data that was not retrievable (sadly): comments, descriptions, ratings, tags, and screenshots.

We may be able to automate screenshots in some manner, but I have to think about it.

In other news, this has paved the way to import all the old levels lying around on the forums... stay tuned.

4 files is now working, out of many files that are missing. Files with .zip .7z mostly contain levels and is more important then pictures. If you have any of the files listed, you can upload them listed on the above link. (on my above post, click on "you can send the file to us")

The first number is the topic number, you just need to change t=number, for example, like this viewtopic.php?t=2372

Bitfighter's VPS by itself wasn't hacked but rather its the system that runs VPS that got hacked which have probably corrupted VPS, I said most of that here. The main problem was the lack of complete and recent backup into another server or computer.

Sure, it's take time, but we can fix everything trought time.

lol i htink i said to create a backup before this happened but it never got done.

Minor note this is i htink like hte 20th time Bf has crashed or got hacked I think we need a better system or more security on Bf maybe as well as a auto reset system for bitfighter.org that its down for say 5 minutes it auto resets ( maybe have a system where it backups reguraly and will load the last backup in a crash)

I don't know if this is related to the crash and I don't know if this is reproduceable on other machines but it was such a tiny issue that I didn't want to make a new thread for it. When I click "Font colour" above my text box when writing a new post, the color squares appear like normal but they're all black, instead of individually showing a color of the rainbow. Interestingly when I click on a random square it does output a color of the rainbow (ie. not necessarily black); the square's appearance remains black however. Anyone else having this issue?
