As I remember (someone can correct me because I only played one game of it), it's a retrieve variant. The differences were that:
1) your retrieve zones were in the enemy base
2) retrieved flags could not be removed
3) touchdowns (and flag resets) occurred once all flags were retrieved, split between teams or not
It seemed pretty lame at the time, but also right up their alley. I'm not positive about how touchdowns and scoring worked, but I seem to remember not being able to steal flags. I think the core idea was that on offense, you were supposed to "bust in" to the enemy base without getting killed. On defense, you were supposed to kill them before they could make it to the zones and push the flag(s) back on the offensive. It's not a bad concept, but their stock levels for it were lousy.
It solved retrieve's flag trading problem at the expense of touchdowns. You can get more or less the same thing by using one neutral flag and putting the retrieve zones in the enemy bases. Juggernaut's Run started with a similar concept, but I decided it was cooler if you had to get into the enemy base and escape as opposed to just carrying your flag in without having to get back out.
