Idea for teleporter delay

I really like teleporter delay and think it could produce some cool maps if widely used. Here's an idea to improve its nature: When the teleporter is used, a visible timer appears, counting down to its reappearance.

So if the delay on a teleporter was 15 seconds, after a player went in the teleporter would disappear and in its place the number 15 would appear. That number would count down until reaching 0 at which point the teleporter would reappear. This would be custom for any length delay... 45 secs, 23 secs, 4 secs, etc.

And maybe the number would gradually turn red when it reaches 3 seconds, to alert nearby players that the teleporter is about to appear.

Thoughts?

I think there'd have to be a way to upgrade them first. Waiting 25 seconds just to go through a teleporter could be a gigantic hit on the map.

I used teleporter delays in my map "Riot" with reasonable success (?). I think a limited-use teleporter could be incentivized by weighing time delay with value of output location. So a teleporter that was delayed for 30s might not be worth waiting for all the time, but if it lead right to the enemy base it'd be great for use when the enemy was nearing a score.

However one of the challenges with Riot was encouraging each team to use only their teleporter. It would suck if a limited-use teleporter opened up and an enemy went in before you had the chance. So perhaps team-only teleporters might be worth pursuing.

FWIW I don't think a delay is right for every teleporter. Level editors should still place regular-use teleporters, and those should be free to enter without restriction.

Personally I'm more fond of the idea of the teleporter gradually coming back. Like, visually.

We see it visually come back as it normally does with its usual timer. If, with teleporter delay integrated, it would visually come back slowly (or more fast in some cases), that would be pretty neat. Intuitive. All that good stuff. More in-game text isn't necessarily very desirable in such a fast-paced multiplayer game.

That's a good idea Quartz. What would the teleporter image look like at larger times? Ex. 45 seconds. Would you see a faint image of the teleporter at that high of a count?

Could it also be possible to have a open/closed timed portal like how the nexus works in addition to timer countdown only after a teles use and team teles ?
