Do you think bitfighter should have rules?

Yes, this kinda thing is tearing bitfighter apart.

No, Bitfighter does not need this. It is fine how it is.

I know I have mentioned this be for but GOSH DARN IT! Bitfighter needs rules. Lots of em' Here are some that we can use.
- Offensive language. (Using words like f*ggot, r*pe, ret*rded. etc.)
- Flaming.
- Trolling. (The bad kind)
- False Banning/Kicking.
- Hacking.
- Just flat-out being a jerk.

Re: Rules.

its impossible to control all of these things. you can only add filters and annoying features that get in everyone's way. its a worthy cause but a waste of time.

How about a report button? Players can report others if they are breaking the rules. The reports can be sent to an admin or mod. boom.

Re: Rules.

Almost all of bitfighter is run completely server side. We could, in theory, ban a reported member from the servers that we run (I could ban someone from connecting to my server, for example) but I cannot ban someone from your server. We could ban someones username, but they could just play under a guest account name. We could ban by IP, but its actually rather easy to change your IP address. Honestly, what do you expect us to do other then say "Hey guys, please be nice... Please?" Because we pretty much already do that.

So what if someone false-reports?

Re: Rules.

Its not like I'm going to ban anyone just taking someone word for it. There will be an investigation and it will be taken very seriously.

Re: Rules.

Opti, what you're asking for is kind of extreme. You're asking for extensive moderation of the community that will put more stress on the admins to develop an effective system and on the players to worry about staying within boundaries.

Look, what happened to you is unfortunate. But it's also an isolated incident. The vast majority of the Bitfighter community are good people. Instead of spending hours implementing a monitoring system that will likely only have value in a couple of situations, let's just encourage users to report troublemakers by sending a PM to admins and bobdaduck.

Doesn't Bitfighter run all the individual servers through a master server? Could an admin potentially IP-ban a user from the master server, who thus wouldn't be able to connect to any individual server?

IP bans from what I understand aren't very effective against anyone who actually wants to get in.

I guess in theory we could IP ban someone from the master (I'm not sure the master server has IP banning capabilities though, it would need to be coded in...) Which would in effect stop people from seeing the servers in the server list. If they knew the person they could manually connect though (pretty easy to do) and they could still play.

The... what? I didn't realize we had players who stooped so low to send offensive PMs instead of making their complaints known to an admin. Why haven't you reported them?

Prove it.

Send a PM to an admin (who I assume are not the ones trolling) and tell them. Heck, you could even create a fake account to do this. We shouldn't have trolls alienating our community especially when our community is so small. We simply can't afford people leaving over such ridiculous issues.
