Are Ship Shapes worth the developers' time?

Inspired by sky_lark's great post in the Ship Shapes Can Be Brought Back! thread, here is a poll.

It's already been discussed to death, so I won't make some grand thesis paragraph for you all to read here. Don't vote in this poll unless you are already informed. If you are uninformed on the subject, please read up on it in the link I provided above before voting.

Thanks!

Re: Are Ship Shapes worth the developers' time?

There will inevitably be confusion over this so I would like to make a couple points clear now:

- When I said a poll, I was not intending that a poll should be the final deciding factor of this issue. I suggested a poll because I wanted to highlight that much of the community was mixed on this issue and thus there was precedent against "just adding the feature" and "hoping for the best." In other words, the poll helps strengthen our argument that not everyone is on board with this idea, so the devs shouldn't waste their time catering to only a portion of the community. This poll should not, however, stomp this idea into the ground; I think discussion ought to continue still.
- Like I said in the other thread, much of our reluctance probably stems from extensive uncertainty as to the actual effect ship shapes would have on the game. Many people still disagree over how many ship shapes would even exist, let alone how they would function. So if you guys can get your ideas straightened out then perhaps it would be prudent to revisit this idea in the future.

Also. I can't speak for Quartz but I think he would agree with me here:

1. Don't vote negatively if you just hate the idea, or positively if you just love the idea. Vote as the question asks -- is developing ship shapes an endeavor worthy of the developers' time? For example, one who really loves the idea might feel that there are other priorities and as such, vote negatively on this poll.

2. Don't vote as this poll is final for eternity. It's not specified, but I think the poll is implying a discussion on whether or not ship shapes are a good venture right now. Don't say strongly disagree on this poll with the thought process that you are voting for this idea to never come to fruition, because it still could at a later date when perhaps the developers are less busy.

Welp, If this is what you guys think, Its what I think. Maybe we should just scrap the idea of ship shapes and use them when its a better time.

Yup I agree on both.

1. Absolutely. I really like the idea of Ship Shapes, but I voted "Maybe."

2. Yes. Furthermore, I intentionally made the poll function that you can change your vote if you change your mind somewhat.

Dammit Opti did you not even read sky_lark's post? This poll is no finalization, it's just further exploring what people think and establishing common ground.

Plus, we have NINE votes. Cripes...

Re: Are Ship Shapes worth the developers' time?

Opti, the point is that we have a lot more than nine members, so it doesn't necessarily reflect true for the entire community.

Also, Quartz is right. You need to read my post in this thread and in the ship shapes thread. I am not advocating for the burial and potential reawakening of this idea. Instead, I gave a bunch of suggestions on how to simply improve the idea to get it to the point where it's good.

If you just sit on the idea and bring it up later we'll run into the same problem later. It's not concrete, it's not thorough. It needs work if you want to make it happen, not lucky timing.

1. Almost -- we're unfinished idea haters. We dislike ideas that would be pointless implementing in their current forms.
2. Why should we "expand Bitfighter away from how it is now?" Your assumption that the "new" Bitfighter will be better than the "current" Bitfighter is unrealistic and unreasonable. Bitfighter works as it is -- it may not be flawless, but I think trying to find a whole new direction on the of would be a mistake.
3. No offense, but you really suck at reading posts. ;)
