Is Bitfighter dead?

Activity is almost non-existant here and nobody ever plays, yet the developers still develop it. :?
Anyone here?

Also why are many people's avatars missing? Does that have something to do with the hacking that I heard about a while ago?

Yep, the hacking deleted all avatars I think, and yeah, not a lot of people have been playing lately, still waiting for sky_lark to release the contest results I guess ;)

You never know... I do still work on it pretty frequently. Probably spending far more effort than the current player base would justify... but that's life.

I'm definitely waiting on that! Probably because I won $20 and I want my $20. The truth is, sky_lark doesn't actually have any money, so he jumped town at the last moment.

I have felt no motivation to make maps. I did touch one up with Skybax, but that's it. My theory is, once bobdaduck comes back, the community will come alive again. I'm completely serious… He and sky_lark practically alone kept the community fresh while our devs kept the game fresh. We are feeling the sting of a lack of bobdaduck and sky_lark.

I've been planning to host the next contest for ages now, but I was waiting for the contest results to come in. I'd be willing to host it now, I have tons of spare time to do that and I think it'd be great. The question is, would anyone even participate?

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

Well In fairness I think my high nubmer of bitfighter topics is helping to keep bitfighter alive.

Honestly I think it if had

A a single player mission mode.

B A multi player exp system

C Got put on steam ( I mean really whats the deal)

D. (forgot what I was going to post Ill put it here later)

It would become very popular and if teh sad day should Ever arrive that Raptor and Wat and Kaen drop Bitfighter Ill be there :)

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

True, all those things would definitely make it more popular and bring in more players, but they would also take a whole lot of work, work that the Dev's don't have the time or resources for to devote to a free arcade game at the moment.

Sure, they're working on it constantly, but it's more of a hobby than their main focus. They work for free.

They work on Bitfighter just to see the smiles on our ship's vectors.

So while all that stuff may eventually happen, it definitely won't be anytime soon.

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

If it had a single player system I could actually play it! I've been saying that for so long

I do not want experience systems in this game, ever. Or achievement systems. Or any other system like that. Goes against the arcades spirit of the game. Scores are ok.

Don't care about steam. If you have to, sure, but I'm not keen on it being this great savior.

That is not a bad idea though, maybe each Bitfighter account could keep track of the experience.

This followed by this.

Please. Is this close to being implemented? The code.google says it's planned for 019c lol

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

Well... I do admit we're in somewhat of a lowpoint at the moment. I keep plugging away at the code, and raptor is still doing stuff, though he his completely busy with other things at the moment. There will be some new stuff in 020 (probably a new turret-like object, maybe a new module), but that still feels very far away given all the internals that have been refactored and are still crashy and whatnot.

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

I actully personly for fun starting working on a exp system for bitfighter.

I finished the forumla for exp to level itself and it works the problem is im having issues with figuring out how to distribute exp for each game type in a way that is fair and doesnt favor one game mode....

Have you looked at the detailed algorithm I came up with?

Ehh what algorithim didnt see it.

Also Im refering the exp out put per game per game mode not the exp to level thats already been decicded for me.

I will note however that a "rating" system which whos skill level is different from a "Exp" system which shows experience...

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

I know, what we have right now is a rating system, with the "Threat Level" of each player.

What I proposed (are you even listening?) was an EXP system based off the already recorded stats. Such as kills, scores, distance traveled, everything that is currently being recorded.

You should really look at it.

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

I know but just a threat level shows temporary skill levelin game im refering to having a permanent "rating" like ELO in chess a number that would fluctuate as you have wins/losses in matches.

So you want a permanent threat level and not an EXP system based off multiple accomplishments?

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

ELO is determined by how well you do against someone else, as well as their ELO. It's easiest to explain by example.

Your first game of chess, you're ranked 1200. Everyone is. Say you lose to someone who is ranked 1600. Your rating falls one point, to 1199. You don't always lose one point per loss, but because 1600 is so much higher than 1200, you only lose one. Infact, 1600 is so significantly higher than 1200, that on average, the 1600 player will win 10 out of every 11 games.

To reflect this, every time the 1200 person wins, he gains 11 points, and every time he loses, he only loses one point.
Generalization:
When the underdog wins, the underdog gets a large number of points; whilst the opponent loses a large number of points. When the underdog loses, the underdog loses 1 point, and the opponent wins 1 point (or something like that).

Definitely, the number of points one person loses is always equal to the number gained by the other. The average of all recorded players should therefore always be 1200.

Basically the reason this is better than a w/l/t ratio is because some people play on easier, or non-competitive maps which can inflate stats. However, if people attempted to do this with an ELO system, they'd have a much harder time (the reason is long winded, but I can go into it if it's unclear why).

(Though I want to point out that I haven't read your algorithum yet Skybax, I'm just explaining the ELO system Amgine mentioned.)
BAM! I'm back.

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

So not only would there be a system for exp to compete at to show experince level (which would have no cap) there would also be some sort of ELO system to compete for best rating overall.

Exp is more casual and ELO would be more seroius...

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

Yeah, the EXP system would be fun, but the ELO would actually be better at determining who's a great player.

Re: Is Bitfighter dead?

True but I feel having bolth would be better

Exp is more casual and for relaxed play and would show how expereinced a player is.

Some sort of a ELO system ( A rating system) would be for more serious play and would show a plyers skill.

I think having 2 separate cases instead of having 1 in between case would be better.
