Maxing the coords/The Float threshold.

Hi this is amgine here to make a announcement of a new BF record made by me! i made a level where i went so far out the cords maxed and wouldn't go any higher i also continued so far past that I hit the float threshold that's where you go so far out the numbers lose decimilic accuracy so the movement is weird i can only move left and right and the shooting is only left and right shooting or moving up or down keeps the shots in space here is a screenie.

congrats to me. ^_^

You didn't actually break any records; Many people have been out that far.

I call it "breaking the float barrier".

Still impressive though.

Re: Maxing the coords/The Float threshold.

For floating points, the higher the number, the less precision of number you get.

32 bit floating point only have enough space to fit about 7 digits, with floating exponents that can go up to 2^127 or about 1.7e+38.

Lets say when ship moves, it repeatedly adds 1 or 2 to (x,y). The problem is if you add 1 to 1234567000000, 32 bit float doesn't have enough digits to add, resulting in failing to add and that makes ship not move.

THAT is what float means! I always see it in code
