I did think about doing the temp fix. But I didn't think it was worth it. They only work for a week or two if that after.
I'm guessing the thermal paste dried up due to the fact the console was switched on nearly 24-7. And had done a few non-stop 24/48 gaming sessions . That combined with cheap thermal paste.. well.
PS3 needs some kinda hardware temperature monitors like my PC has. At least with my PC when the thermal paste dried and the CPU hit 85C for a few seconds (max rec is 60C). I could immediately shut down and change it, unlike the PS3 you got no idea when it's gonna go Except for fan noise, but after long periods of playing my PS3 fans used to max out anyway..
