Help Quartz Make a Map!

Well folks, I know it's been a long time since I've really made a map. It's not for lack of passion but rather, lack of a whole lot of free time. Regardless, I assure you that I am creating, but I haven't released the various maps I've been working on, because they simply aren't finished yet. There are four maps I am currently making, and it's exciting. One of these is nearly done, but I ran into a problem; I'm completely void of inspiration for the center of the map!

I used to be rather possessive, insisting that all my maps be all my work. But I've collaborated with bobdaduck a fair bit and it's resulted in making maps better than either of us could achieve alone. So, I think it's time to cast one upon the waters, and see what the entire community can do!

I thought of giving people the map, and seeing what they could create, but I came up with an even better, more crazy idea yet; Give people the space that will go directly into the map, without any of you actually seeing what the map is! Mwuhahahahaha!!

So, I have attached the space so it is made clear what size of area you are working with. That space is as big as it can get without running into the possibility of walling off parts of the map that need to be accessible, so please don't run over.

What you need to know about the map is included: The gametype (Retrieve), the number of teams (two), and the amount of flags that should be included in your space (four neutral flags). Other than those key details, it's all on you. Keep in mind that it will be the centerpiece of the map, but beyond that I'm not telling you anything!

The deadline for submissions:
When: Monday, August 5th 2013, 8:00am | Eastern Time

And finally, what's the prize? Fame and glory and that's it, I suppose, because I really don't have anything else to offer. Whatever is deemed the "best" version will be considered the "official" map that I release in my next volume of maps, etc.

I'm going to be an opinionated jerk and pick the "best" version myself, although I will undoubtedly be looking to host some form of server for a time for everyone to ogle all the versions of the map, and I'll make a poll to see what is considered the best version by popular opinion, as well.

Submit your map to me over Private Messaging.

This is going to be crazy. Enjoy.

Do we have control over zone placement? And are the flags supposed to reside outside of the space-for-rent?

Re: Help Quartz Make a Map!

Couple of other details:

Yes of course you can use scripts and the like.

I'm willing to include an addition to the title of the map for your specific map, but keep it short.

e.g. say this map were called "Death Incarnate" (it's not), and you submitted your level to me with the title "Bagel Time," your level would appear as "Death Incarnate: Bagel Time." Try to keep it short though, or you could run into issues.

It's ending soon people. I have a whole one submission. You don't really want bobdaduck to win by default, do you?

Fair enough, then!

If you seriously require a "prize" to bother submitting a mere fraction of a map that could easily take around five minutes, then you have problems. Because I hate to break it to you, but a few pixels next to your name is not exactly the most awe-inspiring prize in the world and you've competed for that several times, winning it once, too. Which apparently is everything to you.

P.S. Here's your map guys.

Re: Help Quartz Make a Map!

Just was speaking for the community, you can make a map like bobdaduck in 5 minutes, but if you want an awesome map you usually are waiting for something on return, I would have entered but the map rules are too rule-ish :/

I would've liked for it to be less this way too, but unfortunately I couldn't really think of any way for it to be any *less* so under the circumstances. Now maybe I could've given you an indefinite size of area to work with, though that could've gone badly.

I'm definitely interested in revisiting a similar concept, but probably among friends next time instead of bothering to make a public thread.

Yeah, I think this was most peoples' case really.

can you do something like this again?
I like taking already done maps and just improving them rather than working from scratch
