Asteroids cause serious game problems

I'm in bit town, and the asteroids are causing problems with, well, my weapons appearing, other ships, force fields.I don't see this as a bit town problem

Also, this may not be related, but I find asteroids don't always die on being shot. Or kill you if you're armored - sometimes they bounce off but I think they still do some damage.

Basically there are so many asteroids the game glitches

Re: Asteroids cause serious game problems

There was probably such a large amount of asteroids in the map that it started massively lagging. There are currently two asteroid spawns in BitTown.

Yeah

And you should just remove mine tbh because the invisible walls you put around it make it them even move thus ruining the "chimney smoke" effect.

Re: Asteroids cause serious game problems

Perhaps this discussion can be turned into ideas on how to fix asteroid spawns.

Do/should asteroid spawns be limited to the number of objects they create?

If a spawn was limited to, say, 32 asteroids, what should the behavior be when it reaches its maximum? Ideas:
- Periodically remove the asteroid (and pieces) that was released first, if it is still around
- Stop spawning

Any other ideas?

They move a little bit just not enough to break the game xD

Although the level is broken right now cause it has too many things... Footie just sent me her house and I think it has a billion things in it.

@raptor I like that idea. I think it should just stop spawning when it reaches it's max.

Re: Asteroids cause serious game problems

Since asteroids add like, nothing to gameplay, I wouldn't be opposed to just getting rid of asteroid spawns. A levelgen-regulated asteroid spawn would be easy to do, but we don't want to run levelgen crazy stuff with bittown...

Re: Asteroids cause serious game problems

Perhaps rather than capping asteroid spawns which could get tediuous and annoying fast, and how would you implement it, how about making asteroids a level parameter?

Max Asteroids on map: 50
This would be the best solution imo

Re: Asteroids cause serious game problems

Or AsteroidSpawns could just not spawn an asteroid if a certain number were already within a certain distance. I do think we need to find an automatic way to keep levels from being overwhelmed with asteroids.
