00:16:47fordcarsOkokok
00:17:07fordcarsI don't think there would be any objections for the sake of debian

13:10:55watusimoto1good morning all!
13:11:03watusimoto1raptor: I saw your questions last night
13:11:25watusimoto1did you ever look at the suggested replacement font list I made?
13:11:41watusimoto1and I am ok for releasing without menu music if we can't get the license issue sorted out
13:12:56raptorwatusimoto1: there was a lot of font conversation... and some CPU intensive graphics i look at... but i don't remember a decision
13:13:08raptorgood morning!
13:14:19raptorwhich font was it?
13:20:07raptoroh a list... let me review the logs again
13:21:07raptorwatusimoto1: this list?: http://hastebin.com/igijuvexel.txt
13:25:00Nothing_Muchraptor: did you get a response to the maker of the menu music?
13:25:08Nothing_Muchresponse from*
13:25:10raptornope, and it's been one week now
13:25:17raptormaybe i'll try to contact via another site

13:40:19raptorhaha
13:40:38Nothing_MuchI feel like it should be last Friday at school by now
13:40:51Nothing_MuchBut right now is today, and I have to get ready for work in 15
14:09:10watusimoto1raptor: yes, that list
14:09:54raptori'm finding few of these fonts in my debian vm... i wonder where kaen got them?
14:10:01watusimoto1those are the ones that looked ok when paging through the hundreds of fonts on the list
14:10:18raptoras a replacement for modern-vision?
14:10:19watusimoto1I think there were only one or two that would make the final cut
14:10:43watusimoto1yes -- I was looking for a headliney type font
14:11:28raptorok
14:12:19watusimoto1ok, aborigonal is out
14:13:13watusimoto1Acknowledgement font is out
14:14:18watusimoto1KeyRidgealt is out
14:15:23watusimoto1MathJax_Typerwriter is out
14:17:51watusimoto1new list: http://hastebin.com/lojebivilu.txt
14:18:43watusimoto1those all look interesting in isolation... the question is would any look good would play, and/or be better than just using play itself? (or are any better than play for general use?)
14:19:01watusimoto1^^ "would play" ==> "with play"
14:20:07watusimoto1apparently zrnic is vry similar to the font used in the Playstation 2 logo
14:20:38raptornow the question is if i can find them in debian..
14:20:46watusimoto1kaen did :-)
14:20:58raptoroh?
14:21:06watusimoto1that's where the list came from
14:21:09raptorok, i was worried he got them from his ubuntu machine
14:21:34watusimoto1I thought he was working from a debian list... that was the whole point of the exercize
14:21:57watusimoto1he did a first list that had all lame fonts, then said he found more

15:21:06watusimotoare you thinking we want to do another 19x release?
15:21:25watusimotobecause one of my fixes last night probably affects 019x
15:21:33watusimotoand could be fairly easily backported
15:21:41watusimotothough it's hardly a critical error
15:25:48raptori'm thinking yes... slowly
15:26:03raptorsam686 and I have been committing fixes to 019 then merging them back into 020
15:26:13raptorso we have a marker where we work off
15:26:31raptorI can backport fixes on any revision you think would be good
15:26:46watusimotook; it has to do with rotating a z-shaped wall
15:26:55raptoroh.... you fixed that!?
15:27:04watusimotothe centroid is not caluclated properly for that shape, and the rotation goes all over the place
15:27:09raptori attempted that on 2 different occasions and just left it...
15:27:21watusimotoyeah, it's mostly fixed now
15:27:24watusimotowell, totally fixed
15:27:29watusimotobut still messy
15:27:30raptor'mostly'.. oh ok
15:27:52watusimotothe solution was, when rotating walls, to create a convex hull around the wall, and find centroid of that
15:28:03watusimotoseems to work pretty well
15:28:21watusimotomy hull solution is not the most efficient, but is probably good enough
15:28:31watusimotoand can be upgraded later without much fuss
15:28:47watusimotoI'm going to add some tests for it, which will make upgrade even easier
15:29:09watusimoto(test data is easy to come by, so I'll grab some examples from code demos)

16:52:08raptorSo, I'm attempting to link against another debian font
16:52:31raptorbut I cannot find many of those fonts in your graphic (that watusimoto said were good candidates to replace modern-vision)
16:52:43raptorI've been installing fonts like mad
16:52:52kaengah
16:52:54raptorin debian jessie (testing)
16:53:12raptorand I want to export an image like yours from what I have - how did you create it?
16:53:50kaenhttp://pastie.org/9866448
16:53:59kaenwill generate it from every font you have installed
16:54:25kaen(I installed fonts-* and ttf-*)
16:54:35raptoryes
16:54:36kaenoh, it only looks at ttf and otf fonts
16:54:39raptorin debian?
16:54:49kaenubuntu 14.04, might have a better selection
16:55:05kaenI was hoping there wouldn't be too much divergence
16:55:10watusimotoah, I see... not all those fonts on the last list were Debian approved?
16:55:10raptorah... i bet ubuntu has fonts that debian doesn't allow...
16:55:11kaenany specific ones you couldn't find
16:55:14kaen?
16:55:34raptorso far... all of them except 'Forcible'
16:55:42kaen:|
16:55:50kaenI'll check the logs
16:55:53raptorfrom this list watusimoto build: http://hastebin.com/lojebivilu.txt
16:56:04raptori'll do the crazy imagemagick thing
16:58:24raptordebian uses 'iceweasel' instead of 'firefox'
17:00:44kaeniirc the ff branding is trademarked :P
17:01:23raptorha! icedove is thunderbird
17:02:21watusimotohey kaen, when you get a chance, could you rerun your font generation script to list only fonts in my hastebin list, and make the list larger? The only catch is that the names I supplied may not be the exact ones the font is called, but since there are only 12, it might not be so onerous
17:02:28raptorand... awk is the old unix one and not 'gawk'
17:02:31raptorweird
17:02:54watusimotoawk... no wonder linux never took off with the masses
17:03:06raptoroh no - debian has awk pointing to 'mawk'
17:03:33watusimotois awk short for "awkward"?
17:06:32kaenonly one font on that list is actually in debian main: http://hastebin.com/ipariceguj.1c
17:06:48kaenthe rest are in a non-free package: https://packages.debian.org/source/wheezy/fonts-larabie
17:07:02raptorhere is debian fonts: http://sam6.25u.com/upload/1font-ttf.png
17:07:05raptor6 MB
17:07:29raptorthere are a lot more there
17:07:38raptorso i can do a reverse file -> package search

18:03:52kaengood addition
18:04:45kaenmishmash family looks promising
18:05:02kaena little eccentric maybe
18:06:07kaenseems unlikely that "perfect dark" is legal... but it would fit our theme I think
18:07:43kaenooooooh
18:07:52kaen"Underwhelmed"
18:07:56kaenlooks great
18:08:06kaenthey even have filled and outline variants
18:08:39kaen"unexplored galaxies" too
18:09:57kaen"visitortt1BRK" is a departure from our style, but definitely looks retro and headline-y

18:22:49kaenthese headlines are a bit smaller than they'll be in the UI though, right? aren't they ~ half size?

18:23:46watusimotoprobably so
18:23:54kaenraptor, when you get a chance can you regenerate with -pointsize 36?
18:24:07watusimotowhat is the problem with modern vision? not free, or not in debian (but otherwise ok)
18:24:12kaenI had turned it down before because I was exceeding the max dimensions...
